    Stuff happening in a GB fic is generally a good thing. Still, at this point I'm just tired of all this, the setting isn't really doing anything for me, the vast majority of the characters are shamelessly shallow in their depth.     And one of the few things that are as rage worthy as having something amazing turn to hell is something doing it over and over again over the course of almost 700k words. It wouldn't have bothered me if In Flight had started out great and then broke down to never return. No, what bothered me was that there are several very good moments in this that show the redeeming factors in the story, moments that quickly crashed and burned into the usual harem indulging mediocrity that the story became.

    There's a part of me that just wants to think he has a problem with writing for the fate series in general. Sure Debt of a Sword was great but I think that was a combination of being the exception to his norm on the topic and the fact that he kept the story below 40k words. He made himself concise, making every word count in that story whereas in Hill of Swords and now In Flight he has allowed himself to meander along for several thousand words.     Now that I think about it, the reason I still read the damn thing is because the fic deals with parts of the Nasuverse we rarely see in Fanfiction. The apostle ancestors are brought forth and are relatively accurate in their portrayal, and the clocktower and its politics are kinda sorta not really present (I'm giving extensive liberties to this point since I have always wanted to see the politics of it). The problem is that any scene with Shirou in it is downright predictable and boring....

    Two of those three I'm surprised aren't already in the recommended threads portion, been enjoying Path of the King and Fate Revenant Sword quite a bit. From Fake Dreams just seems to rub me wrong so i'm a bit biased against it but still deserves a look by everyone.

    I actually had some mixed feelings about this chapter. I liked the action portions and the overall execution of what happened to both Higa and Kakiazaki but something felt missing. I'm not sure if this is just the fact that I'm reading this at 4 in the morning but the entire chapter just felt dry, no real conflict or tension in the action at all. Perhaps I'm just to used to Shirou being in pitched battle with other more viable threats but this just felt like it was lacking in some of the...

    Yeah at this point my biggest fear is just how much Gabe will butcher Rin and Saber, two characters who are by no means boring or flat. I'm really tempted to just put this story down but I just can't find it in me after reading over (good god is it that many?) six hundred thousand words.

    Ahhhh, I haven't gone along the Heaven's Feel route yet so I didn't know his perceptions changed that much. I was thinking more with true UBW as the starting, same as In Flight. Quick question, is Heaven's Feel the reason I keep seeing pictures on the Internet of Rider, Sakura, and Shirou living together?

    It doesn't even need to be that much of a departure from what is going on now, just don't have Homura react to Shirou. Have them be friends instead, take some time with it and have Shirou start noticing some of the odd things going on in the town and eventually stumble on a Seikirei battle. Though I will admit, having Shirou meet Minato and his Seikirei would definitely be amusing.

    I suppose the fact that it has been months since we have had a chapter from him has lowered my expectations for gab since I actually liked this chapter. The long coming talk about heroic spirits came and went and I can honestly say it was the best part of this chapter for me.The explanations about magecraft and its difference from sorcery really wasn't needed since it should play a fairly minor role at the most in this story unless gab has something coming.     Decent chapter, nothing really surprising about it or interesting. As GB said, it was basically a filler chapter to break up the tension, I can't really object to that in many stories but considering the current pacing for this story I don't think it was needed. Still the same humor involved plus a relatively amusing scene involving Karasuba, I find it sad that the two characters whose interactions with Shirou I like the most are hers and Miya, two characters who don't make it in often...

    Honestly, I think he waited too long for the reveal. As Sin said, we knew it was coming and we have been waiting for it, because of that it just felt tedious. The opening scenes dealing with the body and helping Miya were fine, it just started seeming rather slow and unnecessary through the middle. Even with Matsu I couldn't really work up any reason to care about what was going on, it was the wake-up, one that came too late.
