    I do like that she put Curse of the Bogies in there, even though I'm all that fond of the incantation. It was part of the First Year curriculum under Quirrell and it's nice to get that little bit more insight. Something else I find interesting is Furnunculus being a Pimple Jinx, while it causes boils in canon. Maybe its effect differs depending on the skill on the caster, which would probably make it a very easy spell. One of the typical schoolyard spells, probably.

    You can't. The second book (and year) won't be out for another year or so. Rowling's going to make us wait a long time to for little pieces of information. I like that we now know a little more about wandmovements and incantations, although it's a shame we only know the first of most new spells. I don't really like there's a three word incantation though (blahblah ad nauseam or something). It opens the door for some really bad fanon spells.

    Huh, so he does. I suppose the whole conflict and turmoil part fits him pretty well. In a way it also represents the way how Draco uses the wand for "Dark", while Harry uses it for "Light".

    Bellatrix has Walnut: Tom Riddle, of course, has Yew: James Potter had Mahogany, which isn't on the list, but was good for Transfiguration. Lily Potter had Willow, which gives about as much insight in her personality as all the seven books toghether: Peter Pettigrew had Chestnut with Dragon Heartstring: I want to bet Charlie Weasley had Chestnut as well. Draco Malfoy has Blackthorn: And Hagric had Oak, which isn't mentioned either.

    The wand also grows with the wizard. So when a wizard becomes better at, say, Transfiguration, I'd like to think the wand itself becomes better at that as well. That would mean a new wand wouldn't be all that different from the wand the wizard already had, seeing as they both suit the wizard well. Or the wizard suits both wands well. Same difference. Either way, I don't think a new wand that's better suited for a certain kind of magic will suddenly make you a lot better at that magic. Both...

    I wonder how different Gregorovitch's wands will be from Ollivander's. He'll probably use different cores, maybe even allows customers to bring their own. Ollivander said something about a difference in style in GoF, but I'm not really sure what he means by that.

    Huh, those wand movements look different from what I expected. Not much flicking and swishing. I wonder if curses and such are different from charms in that area. Or maybe the start of the Full Body-Bind is what a swish looks like on paper. Do we also get more incantations?

    [spoiler] Luna Lovegood cries foul. EDIT: Apparantly, Neville wanted to be in Hufflepuff, but the Hat overruled him. Or convinced him. It doesn't just go along with the student's wish though. And a hatstall is when the Hat takes more than five minutes to decide, which happens about once every fifty years.

    It doesn't cover all the wands though. James Potter had a Mahogany Wand, which isn't on the list. There do seem to be at least two wands well suited for Dark wizards, Walnut and Yew, which happen to be owned by Bellatrix and Voldemort respectively.

    Here's a transcript of Ollivander's description of several types of magical wood. It doesn't cover all wand types, but is pretty interesting none the less. It's actually my favorite addition to canon at the moment. It not only shows some odd characteristics of some of the woodtypes (like Dogwood wanting playful owners), but also gives a little more insight in the loyalty of wands. For example, Elder wands will only stay loyal to those that continuously conquer their opponents, Blackthorn...

    There's more than just the exclusion of all the others students to consider though. Most of the other details don't seem to fit with a thousand students either. There's never any mention of multiple teachers for a single department, which is especially clear with Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination and Care of Magical Creatures. This shows at the Teacher's Table in the Great Hall as well. Another point would be the lack of more boys in Harry's dorm. And I'm sure there's more. At...

    Official releases are canon to me (so all the books and Pottermore). Everything else usually isn't thought out as well and serves as an indication of what the canon world is like, but can't always be taken as strict fact (amount of wizards and dates on Black family tree for example). Dumbledore's still gay though.

    I'd say Hufflepuff is #4. They don't really care about their legacy, they just want to good and hard working in life. #3 has ambition written all over it. There also seem to be some less straithforward questions like Forrest/River? and Head/Tails? I wonder how those work.

    I'd actually like things like the magic behind wands to remain unexplained. Soms things should be too magical to explain in 'muggle' terms. It's the same with the Sorting Hat really. Officially reducing it to nothing but a series of questions just takes away a part of the magic and makes the hat less special.
