    +1 to everything coleam said. I have the older Y500 with the GT750M, and it's a beast (for a laptop GPU). I have no problem maxing out games at 1080p, so you'll be fine. Seeing how they're all essentially identical except for the screen size and the SSD....just get the one with a regular platter drive and your preferred screen size. From what I see, the Y410p (the one at $769) has the best compromise... screen resolution is 1600x900, but is 14". Oh, and be sure to buy a wireless mouse to...

    Sorry to hear about your accident. Insurance won't cover you? THat laptop is okay, so far. What about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231422 Better APU (faster clocks, better iGPU) and you get better screen resolution too. It's bigger and slightly more expensive too, so if that's a problem, let me know and I'll look for others.

    The first link is to the desktop version of the 260. You want to look for 260M -- that's the laptop version. Desktop graphic cards are always going to be far more powerful than laptop graphic cards. That same website indicates that the 750M is roughly 3 times stronger/better than 260M.

    Whelp. This is what I get for not waiting until you edit your post. Well, a quad core doesn't actually produce all that much heat. Nowadays these newfangled CPUs are so efficient that they barely produce any heat to begin with (unless you have a laptop with shit cooling....it happens) -- the main source of the heat will come from the graphic card.

    Oh, here we go. I'm not going to rehash the age old argument of dual core vs quad core for gaming -- and beside, it's not relevant today. This was a real issue back in 2005 or 2006, back then when quad cores cost $300+ and dual cores half of that. Nowadays, quad core computers are a dime a dozen. Shit, I can't even throw a rock at my local computer shop without hitting a dozen quad core laptops -- that's how common they are. They're right there, the price is cheap, and future games will be...

    Functionally identical to what I have (Y500) except that it has the mSATA SSD and an extra graphic card. Note: it's not dual core. Good price too. Lenovo sells this same laptop for $1200 + tax.     I agree with yak... the Asus one isn't a good buy. Sure, it has some redeeming factors, but it's outweighed by the loss of several crucial specs. Stick with the horizon one for now... you can skate by on a semi-legal w7 install until you buy a license.

    Honestly? If you don't know enough about computers, I'd recommend that you just skip on the SSD for the time being. Yes, SSDs are good, but they're not that good to warrant learning about computers to begin with. I mean, boot time difference with an SSD and a HDD is measured in seconds, and outside the responsiveness (programs open a tad bit quicker on SSDs -- same for games, they load a tad bit quicker), you really won't notice the difference. It's up to you, but my recommendation?...

    I don't know about you guys, but I don't have more than 5 games installed on my computer at any time -- and I use a 500Gb platter drive as my primary HDD. I still have roughly ~200GB free space left, after games, programs, downloads, etc. If you're dead set on getting an SSD, then a ~200Gb SSD would be a decent start. Anything less would lead you to playing the digital shuffle game, and anything more is just a money grab (unless you can afford it). If regular SSDs are priced cheaper...

    Wait, you're in Aus? That would explain it. Don't you have any other websites? Those ones you linked.... are, well, overpriced. Like, seriously overpriced. Is that because you're in Aus, or...? Can't you get a Lenovo Y500? It has pretty much all the specs of the $1,199.99 laptop on your link, while being $900 or less. i7 something at 3Ghz, GT750M 15.4" @ 1920x1080 1TB of ram I should know....     I'd go with Lenovo. Do you want to buy new, or would you go for used? If you search on ebay for HP Elitebook that are off-contract/lease, you can secure some great deal. That's how I got my Elitebook, actually. Paid $950 for a Elitebook with Quadro, 1920x1200 screen, 8Gb ram, the whole works, with 3 years remaining warranty (on a laptop that costed $2500 retail). This was three years ago. I'm looking for another one with remaining warranty right now, actually.

    Problem is, it's very difficult to find a laptop with good build quality that doesn't demand blood drawn from your anus. Most business class laptops fit your category -- Thinkpad, Latitude, Elitebooks, Sagers, Alienwares (there, I said it, but certain models), Macbook Pro... There are a couple more I'm forgetting, but these are the main one. Granted, I'm biased, seeing how I own a Elitebook and before that, used to own a T42... but I work in IT and I see almost every type of laptops...
