Yeah, I can understand that. Frankly, I always thought the Imperius was bad style. I mean, just telling someone what you want him to do? Not creative enough for me, too easy.
My personal list for both situations:

It'd be more amusing to plan a grand and complicated scheme for that.

You could order them to behave like they forgot.
And you don't have to lift the spell, have you? Crouch kept it on his son without being there every minute.

4. Avada Kedavra - Cant be convicted of a crime with out evidence... no evidence with AK.

Yeah, but I don't want to be robbing everyone I know of their free will. Life would get a bit boring if everyone around you was nothing but your puppet.

 

Yeah, that's why I didn't include the Imperius in my list.
How about that? You wouldn't need Obliviate if you were a Metamorph as you could always blame something else for what you have done. That would be a good substitute most of the time.

Scenario one is mostly just modeled around me being able to commit perfect crimes, and generally make my life easier.

1. Dumbledore's marble wall cunjuration to block unforgivables

4. If we are allowing spells that can duplicate magical creature that aren't proven to exist then 4 would be a spell to create the dementor affect around a specific area, otherwise a good old cutting curse
5. occlumency

I also might experiment with reversing the veela charm to instead work on girls or time travel. I'd love to be able to have a talk with Lee Harvey Oswald or John Wilkes Booth with the Verituserum.

The problem is that it would be hard for me to win against anyone with apparition for scenerio 2.

 

ididntdoit's post just gave me a brilliant idea.

1) Water into Wine transfiguration.
2) Charm to walk on water.
3) Food duplication charm.
4) Legilimency.
5) A general healing charm.

Congratulations, you can now set yourself up as the Second Coming of Jesus. Admittedly you can't raise the dead, but if you have a fellow magical person standing by to raise the dead as inferi and then imperius them... It could work.

From all your spell selections here, I'd gather the general aim of everybody here is to take over the world or something, so here's my choices.

Assuming I'm the only magical being:

1. Metamorphing
2. Legilimency
3. Apparation
4. Imperius Curse
5. Philosopher's Stones. Lots and lots of it, along with it's recipe.

The above spells synergise to enable me to be anywhere at any time, allow me to subvert anybody or any organisation either through manipulation (Legilimency allows me to practically pick a mind apart and finds out what makes someone tick and such) or the enslaving of one's will, and give me the perfect disguise for every situation. The power to dictate how long I live is just the icing on the cake.

Now, if you add the other DLPers to the mix... I obviously can't let them live to contest with me for power.

I trade the power to analyse another's mind for the ability to protect my own. Since I intend to kill the other DLPers as covertly as possible, the metamorphing skill makes a lethal combination with the Killing Curse. Really, who would expect their best friend, or mother to cast the Avada Kedavra at them at point blank range while their backs were turned. There's no need for useless fancy shit like Sectumsempra, the flaming whip spell or defensive ones like the Shield Charm since I intend for the battle to be settled in one spell, with no chance whatsoever for my opponent to fight back. If one Killing Curse doesn't settle the job, the second one will. If that fails too, I'd apparate away and kill him some other day. It may take a week, a month or a year, but one day his guard will drop and his 'girlfriend' or 'wife' will stick an AK in his back.

The Imperius is there for sticky situations and also to help me on my plan on enslaving the world.

The other spells are self-explanatory. Immortality is sacrificed is this case.

There you go- how to be a successful Dark Lord with an arsenal of just five spells or talents.
