Who the fuck is going to go see Avatar 2 though. It's been years, and 3D isn't the inexplicable draw it was.

I'll probably go and see it. I enjoyed the first and I'm interested to see where they take it.

I would see it just to behold the trainwreck. More than a decade in the making, essentially Pocohantas' direct to dvd sequel. No 3d movie crutch anymore.

But being a James Cameron production it's still probably going to make a hideous amount of money.

Thor: Love and Thunder sounds like a bad 90s porn and I'll still go see it if only so I can properly rage about it.

Then again it could go the route of having Chris Hemsworth as a bitterly annoyed sidekick and turn out hilarious.

If it’s a thing, this movie is basically required to have some of the same self aware humor that Ragnarok did.

Well. I’m sure she handles his hammer fairly often unless Thor’s out pulling a Zeus.

It's been all-but-confirmed that with the casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade, the Netflix shows are officially non-canon.

Looks like Spider-Man is leaving the MCU.

TL;DR is that Disney asked to split the movie proceeds from Spider-Man movies going forward 50/50, and Sony said no and walked away from the table.

If they hadn't set him up as Tony's successor, you could have him do his own neighborhood thing and have them both sort of ignore each other, but after how tightly he was wound up in the MCU this feels like it'll be really hard for Sony to make this work.

Seeing a lot of 'fuck Sony' takes, which is just depressing. Looks like Disney might be trying to weapons consumer fanboy outrage to strongarm Sony.

Fuck I'm really starting to hate Disney...

Yeah, it's kind of hard to sympathize with Disney wanting more money given the ridiculous amounts they're already making. On the other hand, Sony have to know that they're going to struggle to make the franchise work without yet another reboot, and I'm not sure that would go over as well as they might be thinking. Be interesting to see what happens - at the moment, I'd be very surprised if they don't eventually come to some sort of resolution, but you never know.

The latest info is that the negotiations continue. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole news wasn't from Disney because they wanted to put a pressure on Sony.

Not to be one of those fanboys that Gengar mentioned but the original deal was for 95/5 in Sony's favour and an undisclosed amount for teamup movies. Plus, all Sony has to apparently do is Marketing and distribution while Disney does the heavy lifting. Not, in my opinion, a fair deal.

Disney came in asking for 50/50 as a negotiating tactic. They most likely weren't expecting to get that and were probably aiming for the 15-25 range. The problem is that for some reason, Sony didn't come back with a counter offer which some people think indicates that that they were looking for an excuse to cut ties.

EDIT: Should also add that I don't think Sony do all the Distribution in every country. At least, based on personal experience, not the UK.

Spiderverse is the superior movie anyway.

Disney's creative input is a fair point, and one I might have acknowledged initially were I not already side-eying them over the Fox deal. If they are doing basically everything bar the marketing and distribution, fair play, they probably should get more.

At least, if they can't get it resolved, the Far From Home stinger gave them a great way of writing Spidey out.

"Spider-Man! Where the hell have you been? Doom steamrolled us!"
"I got imprisoned as a terrorist Mr Fury! Remember? You were going to get the charges thrown out?"

All indications are that Sony wants to do their own cinematic universe with everything the Spiderman IP gives them. The only reason they agreed to the MCU deal was because at their time their Spidey movies were badly underperforming and all indications were that making more solo movies would tank the value of the brand. Now that Disney's built the value of Spidey's brand back up, while Venom and Spiderverse both did well at the box office, Sony probably feels a lot more confident about breaking the deal.

Now, of course, the question is whether Sony can actually pull off their grand ambitions of the Spiderman Cinematic Universe.

Meh, Spider-Verse was made by Sony Animations and not Sony Film Studios which are apparently two different teams and for some weird reason didn't even collaborate for this. According to rumours, it also flew under the radar for the majority of its production and wasn't subject to the usual studio meddling.

I'm more in favour of keeping Holland but change his name to Peter Stark as a homage to his mentor m. Maybe even have him lose his powers and not go by Spider-Man anymore and maybe turn him into Iron Lad or something. Someone can go "Aren't you Sp-" and his response would be "Not anymore."

Still a shitty thing for Sony to do. Yeah, it's about making more money but they're not thinking long term. At the moment, they're doing no work for 600 mil. But now, they're going to have to do a lot of work for only about 100 mil more. Plus, their movies are eventually going to start bombing when people realise its not in the MCU, especially when Disney go on the offensive and start releasing their movies in the same month as Sony's.

I'm... not so sure the MCU will continue to be the steaming juggernaut it was up to Endgame. I can't be the only one with superhero fatigue.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I certainly ate shit re Captain Marvel.
