Title: The Last Ship in Suzhou
    Author: Lungs
Rating: K? It's a lungs fic. Drugs are bound to be involved.
Genre: Romance / Fantasy / Progression
    Status: WIP, updates daily-ish
    Pairings: Alice x David
    Summary:
Everything has happened before and every instrument sounds the same.
Grudges held for generations, with no sure source of blame.
From this world seed would the skies cast a dice in its favor.
But it does not learn, it does not change.
Who would dare approach the gates?

Ripped from the comfort of our world, David and Alice must face the demons of the past and enemies of their own making. To defy the heavens is to change the world, and nothing ever changes. Except when it does.

Xianxia, done in a different way.

Look, Lungs needs no introduction from me. LSIS is his take on the xianxia genre, hewing closer to the OG modern xianxia / wuxia works of Jin Yong than the generic slop you'll find polluting the internet.

The story is basically about 2 kinda friends, kinda not American-Chinese teens who get isekai'd into fantasy xianxia land, and how they adapt to it. There are a lot of philosophical musings underpining the magic / xianxia system, and lungs has put a lot of effort into referencing a lot of obscure chinese references that like eight of his readers understand (I'm not one of them).

Still, it's competenly written. Prose is lungs-esque (a bit wordy for my taste sometimes, but people who know me know I'm too minimialist for my own good sometimes), with a musical quality to it.

It's really hard to sell the premise of this story because it really is just a xianxia, just executed competently, with good prose, good technical writing, amazingly fun characters, no rampant misogyny plaguing the main character, a good cast of side characters, and some excellent worldbuilding.

    It's xianxia done better.

The start is a bit rough but it's definitely evolved into one of the most watched for updates, nice job Lungs

My review is the complement to Halt's. I'm not very bothered by xianxia, but a story that returns to a spiritual, esoteric, culturally grounded view of personal cultivation and enlightenment is much more interesting to me.

Big fan of the style - if you want to judge whether it is for you, I'd recommend the first and only interlude which both stands on its own and is a high-point stylistically. Probably 4/5 at the moment but I'm expecting it to improve as it moves out of the early stretch.

I'm almost sad that I read this, because now other Xianxia just doesn't seem as good.
