... Okay. You're right. I've only got a snippet from a couple of months ago that I initially blew off as too bizarre, but you've got a point and after another glance, I think I can make something of the matter.

Meant to add this at the time but I was too busy getting enthused about something to remember other people.
As long as you've got something, mate, run with it. Or just submit what you do have down. These are all anonymous. Obviously a longer, fuller piece could stand on its own merits better, but if you can tell something romantic in what you have right now, that's all right too. I believe in you.

Also remember that while you do need to tell a story with a beginning and end there is no word count minimum.

Twist your snippet into something with a beginning and an end and call it good if you must.

Like all written work, the important thing is to try and save it all until the deadline. Creativity is inversely proportional to time until submission.

This is my mantra and fervent hope for this weekend.

Whoa stop giving away first-class writing secrets!

I may have something for this, but the idea is a bit wishy-washy. Eh we'll see.

Competition ends tomorrow! Get those last minute polishes up and running!

@Xiph0 - is there a particular hour you've been cutting off entries at, more or less?

Just finishing the last touches on my submission. Boy, that was fun to write.

I'll cut submissions off when I have more than one submission, how about that? :D

Done and sent. Didn't beta, just going off of my own feel for the writing. So I'm feeling pleased, but we'll see how that holds up once the reviews come in. I'd have never gotten here if not for your boot to the ass, @Zombie, so thank you for that.

EDIT: I take it back, my pleasant feeling has degenerated into cold dread.

Should be at least two entries now, so you can release them now @Xiph0 :)

My understanding (which is up to Xiph0, not me) is that we have through the day the competition ends to get them in.

So at least til midnite in whatever timezone he's in, unless he's been doing it differently in the past.

I won't make it, unfortunately. But I will promise to maybe review the entries.

I'll leave it until midnight my time (~5 hours). Anything after that won't be taken.

Bah. No go again for me.

My initial idea ballooned out into a full fledged plot that I may try to write as original fic now. I have pages of handwritten notes.

About an hour ago I tried to write a flash piece but an hour just wasn't enough time to get it readable.

    One day I shall enter!

I saw Xiph's post, decided I would turn my notes into a coherent story.

I now have a very clean room.

    In order:

    Entry 2
    Entry 4
    Entry 1

This was really difficult for me to decide. Entry 2 was the clear winner in my head, and Entry 3 was the worst of the lot. The big problem for me was the tossup between 4 and 1 which were both rather even in my mind. I gave 4 a higher spot in the end because of better technical writing.

I find it interesting that for a theme of Romance, the ones that did best for me were non-Romance themes - 2 was arguably more about redemption, 1 about obsession / insanity, 4 about a casanova lifestyle. 3 was the closest thing to a romance, and even then I wouldn't call it such necessarily.

    Entry 2
    Entry 1
    Entry 4

None of these stories are romance. Atleast not what I would consider romance, so I feel like a lot of that invalidates the idea of the prompt. 4 placed higher than 3 simply because there was an attempt, where as there was no attempt with 3.

How'd 30 of you vote romance and then none of you write it?

Entry 2 - Just clearly the best story.
    Entry 4
    Entry 1

I'm actually pretty sure (and can confirm it for one entry) that none of the people who wrote for "Romance" also voted for "Romance".

So ... it might be a form of subconscious protest?

I know I tried to write Romance, had an actual Romance plot, and then ... it just turned out to be something different.

I'm pretty sure that very few of the people who voted for 'Romance' are even writers on this site. I'd have made a contribution myself, but it overlapped with Nano.
