Still on my indie folk dreampop bullshit but this one makes for some great doomscrolling soundtracks.

For the vast majority of the year I haven't been able to stop listening to this rather appropriately titled song.

Been enjoying Closed on Sunday's Star Wars lo-fi.

This one is a particularly good one:

    Also this:

I'm basically listening to these songs every day right now. (The entire new Maiden album, to be honest).

It's amazing how well Bruce Dickinson's voice has held up. The dude is 63-years-old. I'd bet he's had some opera training. For my money, their first three albums are the best, and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' their best song.

ETA: their first three albums with Dickinson, not the other guy.

The two Paul Di'Anno records are masterpieces as well. Put some respect on his name lol. The Other Guy, good lord.

Maiden's 7 album run from 1980 to 1988 is probably only matched by Black Sabbath from 1970-1975. Then Sabbath had two pretty bad records in Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die, and then Dio came in for two killer ones.

But I'd say my favorite Sabbath run is the Eternal Idol - Tyr - Headless Cross with Tony Martin.

Fear of the Dark is one of my favorite Maiden songs of all time. However I do have a secret love for the entire Dance of Death album (DoD and Paschendale in particular) - that one was my first ever Maiden album and I listened to it so so much - a section of my book collection is tied to it, since I listened to it while reading. Unsurprisingly, I also now and then return to it when going for a run. There's just something about that nostalgia that hits hard at times.

Fear of the Dark live in Rio 2001 is probably the best live metal performance of all time. It ticks all the boxes - the band plays tight, Bruce is on point, and the crowd is fucking incredible and plays along.

It might only be topped by Metallica in Moscow 91 in front of a million and a half people, even if I don't have any idea how the people in the back still heard it.

50 people fucking died at that show. \m/

Song about the CCPs inability to take criticism, naturally it got banned in China.

One of the finest Doom Metal songs that I've heard in years. Which is awesome, since the apex of doom metal was a few decades ago.

Let me go; I've seen religion, but the light has left me blind. Take me back! I must have the Bible Black!

Let me go; I've found addiction, and it makes me feel alive. Take me back! I must have the Bible Black!

If anyone wants to dip their toes into Doom Metal, here's some paragons of the scene:

Where is the truth? Where is the light? Where is the peace? Where is God?

By holy singing it is hymned; By holy faith it is risen; Sepulchral bonfire of war you were born in fire

Deadened eyes, extinguished dreams, muffled sounds as the coffin's lid is slowly nailed shut

Forgive me Father, for I have Dreamed

There's more to doom metal than depressing lyrics, heavy bass, and lowered tempos. It needs crunchy guitar riffs. It needs soaring vocals when needed. It needs drums that don't overpower. It needs bass that fits. It needs high guitars to break up the dropped down riffs.

If you can handle the Evoken piece, with the distorted vocals and growls, it's one of the finest pieces of music ever recorded. (That came out condescending, it isn't meant to be like that. It's mostly the vocals that a lot of people hate)

Been listening to Aurora, the definitely real fake Daisy Jones & The Six album that released together with the first three episodes on Prime last week. I thought the album was good, but unremarkable on my first listen, but I‘ve come to like it more and more every time I go through it. Riley Keough can really sing.

This one might be my favourite of the lot:
