Having a JD from a top law school and working as legislative staff for a top state legislator in the capitol building while you get that JD .... not even remotely working class. Extremely deluded upper class with narcissistic personality disorder.

Great for a candidate in a losing district. Not great in a position that needs to get things done.

You said JD and I thought Jack Daniel's and I was very confused for a moment.

TOMD: Had my orientation today at work from 9 am to 3 pm. Now I'm trying to acclimate myself to a third shift sleep schedule so that I can go in at 10 pm Monday night. I was barely able to get a wink of sleep this evening so now I'm going to try and stay up all night and go to bed around 10 am tomorrow morning.

It's going to be a long night.

Melatonin. Take as much as you want, wake up feeling fine. It just makes your eyes heavy. No known dosage limit. Common form is 3-5mg but they gave a large study 70mg a day for 2 months and there weren't ill effects. Take a fucking handful if you need to. :P

Melatonin is harmless as far as supplements for sleep go but maybe try some blackout curtains for when you're sleeping. I had hurricane shutters in college and I could easily sleep in the middle of the day with those-- beautiful complete darkness.

Also melatonin gives me less crazy vivid dreams if I take small doses-- like .3 mg.IIRC the patent for it is for 300 micrograms so that's why supplement companies sell super big doses. Just break it into tiny pieces.

I've never had vivid dreams on it and I feel somewhat robbed. I've taken low doses and moderate doses (3mg - 12 mg) and nothing, ever. I just remember the dreams a little better.

Got a new review on a fanfic today. The final line was this:

Ah you're from DLP. No wonder your writing is better than most.
I guess that means I gotta thank all you harsh bastards. Wait . . . this is DLP. No I don't.

Pretty sure I'm taking those 100$ shoes back. They somehow got worse overnight, to the point just sitting in them gets to be uncomfortable.

Now I need to try and find someplace in town that does proper shoe fittings, because clearly I fail at picking comfortable shoes.

There are chains that do it. I just don't know where you live so I can't recommend any.

So it turns out there is still a Shoes R Us in town, and they probably do shoe fittings.

I hope.

Note w.r.t Melatonin: normal dosage is almost certainly too high; see https://www.gwern.net/Melatonin for a full analysis (subsection "Tempus Fugit" for the dosage, but do read the whole thing).

tl;dr: Try taking doses between 0.3-1 mg, rather than 3-5 mg. It may be difficult to find smaller doses in pharmacies but you can order it online.

TOMD: 7% Pay rise. 7% of naff all is still naff all but hey, all things considered it puts me on relatively equal footing with my co-workers but reeks of the Company just trying to get everyone on the same level to avoid more complaints about pay. Still not sure how much it'll have impacted my hourly rate, shift pay and so on yet so, I'm keeping a level head. Not life changing but every little helps.

Bright side is driving test in several weeks coupled with the move to a new building which opens up a lot more opportunities to move within work, or simply get a new job outright if I'm not happy with it after a month or two.
