Um...link is messed up. You've mixed up HTML and the forum code.

But yeah, I saw their thing about Beta readers. Looks like it's going to be useless. Their qualifiers you need to become a beta reader are possibly the worst executed idea in FF.Net history.

"Must have written at least 3 stories"

How exactly is that a good indicator of ability? It isn't. FF.Net should leave the Betaing to PI, and maintain themselves as simply a hosting service, open to all. That's the main attraction of FF.net after all.

Old news, old news. It is a new feature of FFN to find betas. In order to qualify you must have at least 5,000 words posted or several stories, can't remember the actual number.

Let us hope it will improve quality, although I doubt it. "My Immortal" is after all exceeding the 5,000 words limit and I don't think she would qualify as a proper beta reader.

    I can see it now:

"No, no this is al wyrong. Mke Hary moaur goffik!!£&!*&£!!"

You want less shit, view your sights using internet explorer.
But yeah the whole beta net thing won't lessen the influx of shit, might, and I stress might help some potential stories.

I knew they were looking for beta-readers, but I didn't even notice that bar.

    All of which you deserve.

The beta reader system might improve quality slightly for those who choose to use it, but generally speaking, a good beta is only slightly less rare than a good author.

I amused myself looking up some of these beta readers. Some of them need one themselves for their profiles.

Also, as someone who's suffered through AOL in the past, godspeed and I hope you find something better. Fast.

I found it last night, when I uploaded my latest chapter to FFn. Interesting, but I dont see it doing much. >_>

But its nice to have a list of Betas for any fandom rather than just HP. PI is nice, but a limited fandom. If there are any decent ones on there, it'll be a nice thing, but Like I said. I dont see it working well.

It isn't good at all. I checked a few of the beta's profiles, they can't spell or use commas for shit. Fucking retards.

It's good that FF.N is attempting to increase the quality of the works displayed but their methodology is too inefficient.

what would be an effective method in selecting fairly good betas?

    Dear God.

Doesn't ff.net realize some of the best betas don't always write their own fan fiction? I know at least two beta-readers who do a great job who aren't authors themselves but are darned good at the English language.

Can we please bomb ff.net with dictionaries, thesauruses and grammar books?

I looked through a few of the Beta Profiles and PM'd a few of them, informing them that they had errors on there. Perhaps DLP should mount a joint effort to PM all bad betas.
