And the results from round 1 are:

Under the rules (get 17 votes or be eliminated), everyone under the dashes has been kicked out of the race. Seven contenders remain, next round of voting is coming Tuesday, when they'll need 33 votes to remain in the race.

Bojo, Hunt and Gove as the podium. It's a wet dream come to life.

Disappointed to see Rory Stewart at the bottom of passing through. I think for a Tory leader he'd be the best and the most restorative for a deeply divided party and country - though I'm not expecting too much from any corner, really.

Johnson received over a third of the votes which is all he needs to get to the Conservative membership ballot. So unless he loses support from some MPs he will get to the final vote which he will almost certainly win as he is extremely popular with normal people. So yeah I'd give him a >95% of being the next Prime Minister.

Only a truly major scandal will take him out.

    Guess what's back, back again.

It's the Independent Group. Sure, they're appending 'for Change' this time, but eh, details.

Additionally: Chuka Umunna has joined the Lib Dems.

    Hancock is out.

    Six people remain.

I dunno, man. If you're reached the point where you're comparing politicians to nonexistent fictional school houses, maybe it's time to drop a bomb on the whole place and start over.

Also. Being a Slytherin, I feel offended.

Quite right. Any true Slytherin would be entirely undetected and 100% successful.

    Polling news.

    Con party members Brexit sacrifices-01_small.png
So there you have it. Up to 2/3 of conservative party members now are officially part of a cult.

This is so clear and what I expected that I'm actually getting paranoid about confirmation bias, but I guess sometimes, what you think is and what actually is, matches perfectly.

Rory Stewart appears the choice of the still-sane. His problem is just that there aren't enough of those left. Guy is, essentially, in the wrong party:

General polling remains the way it looked for the EU elections; on average Brexit and LD ahead, Labour and Tories behind; no prediction for FPTP seats possible.

Stewart bit the dust earlier, Farage suggested an electoral pact last night between the Brexit Party and BoJo-led Conservatives, and the leader of the SNP in the House of Commons out and out called BoJo a racist. (In PMQs, which isn't exactly the most standard forum.)

    Pretty much your average Wednesday.

Javid has been eliminated, so we're down to the heir apparant, the backstabber, and the Cockney slang sufferer.
    --- Post automerged ---
And the final two are Johnson and Hunt.

    BoJo to take it 70-30.

Not even a contest. Johnson has been odds on favourite to win since the start and the way he's kept himself out of the limelight so far means he hasn't had the opportunity to fuck it up. Now's the time he'll be front and centre though, so maybe that'll change, but it's unlikely because everyone already knows him as a bit of a fool.

I can't believe that the sexpest car journalists will actually be PM. It's like an absurd joke.

Ian Hislop must be kicking himself for wanting to make fun of him that one time.

Are you confusing him for Jeremy Clarkson? Because as far as I know, BoJo was never an auto journalist.

He had an automotive column in GQ for a while. Clarkson actually mocked him for it at one point after BoJo became mayor and started in on public transit.

An interesting (to me) article about how apparently the personalities and destinies of the people who rule the UK today were fully formed when they were 20 years old or even younger.

Google "How Oxford university shaped Brexit — and Britain’s next prime minister" to get a link from google that works, if the direct link hits a pay wall.
