A new TV series staring Elijah Wood. IMDB

I like it. It's based on the novels by Douglas Adams, and as such is like a combination of Dr Who and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

It's fast, it's funny. It's made by BBC... I'm only 4 episodes in, but I love every minute of it.

 

Having watched the whole show and then gone back to read the book to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, no, it has absolutely nothing to do with the books other than the title. It's fun if you can stand Max Landis works as it's peak Landis in terms of how characters quirk at each other constantly, and worth a watch.

 

I agree with Mutton. There's no resemblance to the book I read beyond the names, especially since everything has been American'd up to the eyeballs.

 

Just finished it on Netflix.

The first episode is weird, but I loved it overall. The characters, intricacies of the story, The tone, and the lore.

It seems to have very little relation with the books though.

You should definitely watch it

 

Gotta agree, it's very loosely based on the book series, it's based on the character in the series as opposed to the events in the books. That does not make it any less good, though.

It certainly captures the wierdness of Dirk Gently, in a good way.

 

What character? Not book Dirk Gently in the least.

It's a very watchable show, but the title is entirely for nerdcred and has zero to do with the book.

 

Agreed, if this had been marketed as anything else I'd have been first in line to watch it, but as it is what it is I can't help but draw comparisons and that sours every feeling I have towards it.

 

After watching it, i can't help but morn the lack of Corgis on television
