I played the alpha and beta, dropped it, and have picked it back up.

Its like a cross between monster hunter and warframe, but not the good parts of either.

The monsters don't have as much health as in MH, so you kill them quicker. But there's no real combat tricks - light and heavy attacks, with a supercharge too. Some combos, but not many.

The maps are empty - you'll face the monster, and that's it. No hordes to protect yourself from, or careful planning of item pickups or use.

Movement is quick, simple, and minimal loading screens; which is good. But so far there's been no need to have big maps. Especially with the low effort graphics. But this does mean missions can be cleared in fifteen minutes, and you're granted a team of randos, so you don't hunt alone.

The premium version is rubbed in your face at every opportunity.

There is, so far, no real tree to equipment. Each weapon and armour set is upgradable, but only in one way - you don't have to choose between raw and element.

If you wanted to play monster hunter, but couldn't afford a copy, then this might tide you over. But it doesn't do anything as well as, never mind better.

For casual gaming, it might be worth trying, but I felt it lacked any long term potential - nothing to sink my teeth into. Nothing to spreadsheet out.

I'll probably be exclusively playing my friends so I'm not really worried about the community.

I've played Dauntless, it's pretty decent. It's not better than Monster Hunter at anything except not being overburdened with campy Japanese silliness, but it doesn't do anything wrong either. Solid 7/10 game all around; it's fun and functional, but not exceptional in any particular way.

Yeah, honestly, for the low low price of free, it's not terrible. Just not my thing, and if you're a pubbie without a set group, it's a crapshoot what you get for teammates.

Is it just impossible/difficult to solo? Can you do small teams (2-3 people)? Or do you always need [max hunting party size here]?

I was doing most of it solo and didn't have a huge amount of problems, though admittedly I only killed the first half-dozen or so monsters before I got distracted and left it behind.

You're automatically put into a queue for the quest with anyone else signed up to do it. You can party up, and then queue either by yourself, or with the party; but it defaults to max party size.

I don't know if endgame is soloable, but I can't see why it wouldn't be. Damage Out and HP scale on monsters with the size of the party (not linearly, but I don't actually know how), and being the solo target makes the monster easier to predict, but you might want slightly better gear than if you were in a group

Soloing is definitely possible, monster health scales based on the amount of people in the group.

You can do any amount of players from 1-4, it's called a Private Hunt , and the option is literally right below Start Hunt button that sends you on a mission.

It's not great, it's not shit, it's just a more casual Monster Hunter. Hopefully they'll keep pumping out monsters at the rate that they put out Fortnite skins, that way we don't have to fight the same 10 monsters for a year like MHW.

Greed fall looks fun. Similar to A BioWare game minus EA.

Looks like “Early Modern Age Horizon Zero Dawn meets Avatar” to me.

    Colour me interested.

Not a game I expected to get a remake, glad it's happening though.

    Fantastic trailer.

Oh that's awesome. I loved that the first time around; it was just the kind of campy goofiness that I love. Looking forward to the remake.

Outer Worlds is looking pretty sweet. Very much a New Vegas spiritual successor, and I can't wait.

Something that doesn’t really surprise, but nevertheless disappoints me just a little bit about this year’s E3 is the absence of the Harry Potter RPG that leaked late last year.

I didn’t want to post this in the E3 thread or necro the specific one, because what I’m asking basically amounts to “do we even know whether that’s still in development?” With the new set of Potter-related lore books on its way, it would’ve made a perfect tie-in, but we haven’t even had as much as an announcement since last October.

AAaaaaaand another one bites the dust. Shenmue III wil be an Epic Store exclusive. They won't honor Steam preorders and no Kickstarter refunds. Tim Sweeney, you've done it again.
