I will warn you it was written by a slash maniac. But it is accurate and fairly comprehensive. It covers just about any area of knowledge you could concievably need for a fanfiction.

http://www.peevish.co.uk/slang/ I find that helpful whenever my old roommate calls or emails me. I'm sure he has one for all the southerner speak I use in return.

Thanks for the link Mordecai. It's one thing to complain that writers need some little details to provide a sense of realism and place, it's another to do something about it.

There are some things I disagree with in the resource you posted Mordecai - mainly his section on slang and his section on schools - basically he is basing his facts on what it was like when he was young. although, what I would say wouldn't be much better, as general established HP timeline puts him in Hogwarts in '91. (BTW is this just accepted, or is there a cannon basis for this?)

Otherwise, it is a good guide (I can't believe I read it all to be honest - got slightly bored.)

The slang bible was good too, checked up all the 'slang' I use and it all appeared in there correct with definitions. Good resources. I especially liked the point from Mordecai's link about how you would never get Buffy walking down to a chippie and ordering cod and chips with mushy peas or whatever

Meh. I've pretty much picked up British slang from hearing them on TV and from hearing English friends talk. It's not hard to remember.

All you have to do is compare his birthday with when he starts school. It isnt hard.

But where in cannon does it say he was born in 1980? it's been confusing me for a while, maybe I'm just completely missing this...
