So, has anyone besides me played one of the best TBS games out there? It's a great series, and if you're into that kind of thing you should play them, if you haven't. There's a total of 10 games, 7 and up are available in the US and I'm currently emulating 6. They remade 1 for the DS, came out the 17th, I'll be getting it soon.

So...discuss if you have or haven't played.

It's by Intelligent Systems, the people who brought the epic of Paper Mario 64.

    Disagree. Hector = Ike > Ephraim > Eliwood > Eirika = Roy

Fun game, I have the one for the Game boy Advanced, whatever it's called. One of the very few games I make an effort to keep everyone alive, even going as far to restart a level when one of my party members die.

God, the hours I've spent redoing levels to find the 'perfect' path.

It's not the best TBS. If you know what you are doing at the beginning levels, you can easily just bulldoze your way through the end levels. Anyways, I've played most of the English FEs. All were really easy, even on hard mode on the extra stages. All you really need is to know who are the better units and max their levels out fast.

I played about half or so into Path of Radiance. Stopped playing for some reason. I liked it well enough. Might get the sequel once I beat it.

It's been a while since I've played, but as I remember it, if you're trying for rank on the harder difficulties, this works out about half of the time. If you've got the opportunity to pick and choose, that's fine, but a lot of the time you're going to need to use the subpar ones in order to finish the level efficiently and well, and a lot of the time the more even division leads to poor characters ending on your final team. And using those characters and still aiming for a decent (S-) rank gets to be a bit of a challenge. I think that there's even some argument for using characters like Marcus in those situations; the landscape is radically different.

To me, the game is honestly about as hard as you want to make it, like most good games. If you're just aiming to beat the campaign, sure, waste a few turns in the Arena and use Nino, but if you want to step up the difficulty, everything is there for you as well.

I haven't really played Sacred Stones (a few chapters) or Radiant Dawn (not at all), but I don't see how Hector is worse than either of those characters. Although it's certainly variable, he's almost always significantly better than Eliwood and slightly better than Ephraim.

Anyone actually have Shadow Dragon? Came out 2 days ago and it's harder than the other ones.

I'll be getting it this weekend. As far as characters go, and what people to use, one or two playthroughs usually does the job nicely. Marcus = EXP vortex. If I remember right, these are my general final teams.

FE7: Hector, Nino, Legault, Rebecca, Sain, Raven, Serra, Guy, Dart, Athos
FE8: Ephraim, Colm, Neimi, Ross, Amelia, Ewan, Franz, Joshua, L'Arachel, Myrrh, Gerik
FE9: Ike, Nasir, Nephenee, Mia, Shinon, Muarim, Volke, Boyd, Gatrie, Oscar, Soren, Rhys/Mist
FE10: Ike, Volke, Nailah, Caneighas, Giffca, Tibarn, Naesala, Haar, Titania, Shinon, Kurthnaga, Edward, Nolan, Sanaki
NOTE: These are my ideal parties, and required units (Lyn, Eliwood, Eirika, Micaiah) usually screw it up.

    Ummm, wha?

Rolf is a far superior archer to Shinon (as is Astrid).
I never really bother with laguz, outside or Reyson, anything they can do a Paladin can do better.
As for Mist... the only reason to level up a healer, who can't use light magic, is so she doesn't die in the face off with the Black Knight.
As for Nephenee... well I never really bothered with her. Anything special?

FE9: Ike, Nasir, Mia, Soren, Rhys, Rolf, Oscar, Astrid, Kieran, Jill, Bastian, Volke

I've never bothered with Astrid, as she comes at level 1 when most of my party is 15+, if not 20/1+.

That said, a 20'd Shinon is superior to a 20/20'd Rolf, which is beyond sad. Muarim is the best of the beast tribe, get rid of that Demi Band and you got yourself a tank up there with the Generals. I've used Mist once and she was a competent healer, though she ended up being a glorified Troubador. Bastian isn't that great, from my experience, I've never used Kieran, and Haar > Jill, in both games.

On Nephenee, you're missing out. BIG TIME. Outside of Ike, she is the BEST Beorc in the game, easily. Halberdier Nephenee, level 20, with Wrath, Vantage, and Adept = pwn. I guarantee if you use Nephenee once, you'll use her from then on.

Replace Bastian with Ilyana sorry. Competent mage, even better with her Mia support conversations.

I've never compared a 20/20 Rolf to a 20 Shinon as I never use them to that point. Astrid comes at level 1 yes, but with her double experience ability she'll hit 20/1+ halfway through the 4-part forest level. Give her an HP booster along with her Knight ward and she's a tank as well.

Though if I do another run through I'll use Nephenee, though the thought of a single-weapon class makes me cringe.

Nephenee is worth it. *is a Nephenee fanboy*

On Shadow Dragon, just picked it up, am blazing through it. It's giving me a challenge though, but I'm having the too low drop 'em issue. Meh, I'll try 'em out next run. Is anyone else not getting supports?

On Radiant Dawn, the support system annoyed me, and they effectively made Ike gay. >>

I have yet to get a support. However I found a cheap way to level up Gordin in the first level so he ended up as my highest level unit.

Clayton, I'm thinking of picking up Shadow Dragon. I assume you've beat it once or twice by now, worth my time?
