The author was a bit pissed off nearly ever Stargate/nBSG crossover these days features the Colonials acting like retards. So, this is the result, a short (25k words) fic showing how first contact would probably go. the Colonials ahve their canon characterisation, the SGC has theirs and the space battles seem pretty reasonable to me given you have people with energy shields facing people with metal armour.

The only major downside of the story is the author has left it at the end of the first contact and has zero plans on doing a sequel. So it's finished but it does feel like there should be more there.

I read a fairly substantial part of it, and while it hits all the right notes in terms of realism and balance, I kinda just got a bit bored. It's the same as a lot of Spacebattles-hosted fics, which is that it gets too bogged down in the detail.

What the fic does make me want, however, is a Twelve Colonies-centric Stargate AU. They'd be so much better positioned than Earth to take advantage of what the Stargate has to offer, but also in some ways more vulnerable - as a space faring civilisation, they might be tempted to engage the Goa'uld on equal terms in a straight out shooting contest, which would go very badly for the Colonies.
