This is a worldbuilding exercise, more or less. The concept's fairly simple: each post has a new detail about the setting. Hopefully this results in an interesting setting that makes sense.

No shitposting, though. If you post something that blatantly and deliberately clashes with something an earlier poster added just because, you're a dickhead.

I'll start us off with something super basic:

The world of Barrovia is divided into three continents: Fogris, Arioth, and Qitor.

Arioth is known as "The Land With No Magic".

Barrovia has 2 suns and 3 moons: one sun a red dwarf, the other a yellow, main sequence star. The three moons shine white, blue, and green respectively.

Fogris was an ancient continent, once ruled by ferocious beasts known as dragons, but now is a desolate wasteland.

In ages past, Arioth used to be the capital of magic on the world of Barrovia.

A ritual, known only as 'The Rite of Ascension', gone disastrously wrong through means unknown, was the cause of the continent's magical desolation. This happened many centuries ago.

    DND PTSD is triggered.

But in the theme of the thread:As the only continent suitable for sustaining advanced civilizations of people, Quitor is a hub for adventurers, who travel often to Fogris and Arioth seeking treasure and fame.

One of the major nations of Qitor is the Slorathian Theocracy, subject to the iron fisted rule of the Mage-Priests of Slorath.

Forgis seems to have the most natural resources, including the coveted Ianite, but as a desolate wasteland it is hard for any large populations to survive there.

The lack of civilization in Forgris has led to it being ruled by various nomadic groups and monster packs. Each of them follow herds of animals for food and the sporadic rains that come through the area.

The blue moon is a major object of worship for the Confederation of Iraski, a minor nation on Qitor. The Slorathian Theocracy has both long coveted Iraskian land and sought the eradication of the heretical rites, but actual military campaigns have not happened in living memory of anyone not very old.

The white moon seems to have some sort of effect on all sorts of magic. When it is a full white moon, magic is the strongest. Magical plants tend to bloom, magical animals mate, and the sentient races of Barrovia perform all sorts of rituals. When you cannot see it, magic is the weakest and even experts in sorcery reach for ordinary weapons.

But once every fifty years, there comes a night when the white moon hangs in the sky and the others are shrouded in darkness. That is when the barrier between reality and beyond is the thinnest, and many a story is told in terrified whispers around shivering campfires about the magics that roam free, wild and hungry...

The Kingdom of Knorr is another major nation on Qitor - populated by 2 main sentient species, an ultra long lived, but slow to reproduce magical race who rule over a short lived, fast reproducing non-magical race.

Crofter was a powerful mage of the long lived species who gave his life defending Knorr from the dragon invasion.

This map was found on the desk of Thulofall of the Izz Protectorate shortly after he left the post to his heir in 344.

At the southern tip of Forgis lies the Greenling lands. A foul swampland, it is ruled by sentient vines, the land has been a rebellious vassal state of Knorr since time immemorial. Rulership has recently passed into a young vine who contemplates finally achieving freedom for her fellow plantpeople.

The lord of the nation of Bors is known as The Borsovan. He is elected by the Wise Men of the Tribes of Bor, to lead them as Primus Inter Pares for a period of 17 years. That period of time being indicated by a celestial cycle that is important to the Tribes.

Arioth has a vast underground network of tunnels and no one has successfully been able to map the whole thing. Many of the tunnels seem to eventually lead to large cavernous spaces. The walls of these caverns are covered in ash. Arioth's volcanoes have not been active in ten thousand years, but the ash, though ancient, is much fresher.

An old rumor says there's a tunnel below the sea which connects Arioth to Knorr.

Of all the ancient and proud races of Barrovia none remains more mysterious than the Watchers, a strange group of lanky limbed pale men with no eyes. They cling to the edges of the fragile civilizations, and observe. None have witnessed the birth of a Watcher much less a child. And yet the Watchers persist through the ages.

Strangely limbed men in the corners of paintings, tapestries, and carvings. Ever do they watch silently as the years turn into centuries.
