    It's a ridiculous pagan holiday developed to stave away winter depression (it's evolutionarily advantageous because suicide rates shoot up in winter, and happiness=less suicide) that was later adopted by the Christians so that they could keep their dearth of suicides, but also chill with The Jesus. Consider St. Brigid, formerly known as Brigid, daughter of Dagda, of the fair folk, converted by good ole saint patrick. What a great bloke.

    Or, even, consider the beginnings of Christianity! There were adaptations even back then, when they let the Christians chill it with the keeping Kosher, in order to get more converts, and-- *le gasp* they proselytized!

    A'course, then Coca Cola came around and changed Santa Clause from that atrocious yellow and green to a much more stylin' red and white.

    Finally, stores began to hype up a holiday where you bought lots of stuff. As presents. So . . . it's a corporate holiday. That's all you need to know.

    Wow, I'm so tired I'm planting blatant lies in my post. Can anyone spot them?

    But i would like to correct the colors, he was gray, brown and green... Not yellow and green :p
    For that part, he was from the beginning an "crazy old man" who would go bonkers on you if you didn't invite him in and offer food.
