It's basically a short little fic (16k) of a post-war Harry who tries to drown his sorrows and somewhere along the line meets Narcissa Malfoy. The writing is, as far as I can tell, generally alright, and the story is good-ish. I don't quite like the ending, but all in all I'd say it's a 3.5/5, rounded up to 4.

I remember this. It's one of my favourite Harry/Narcissa fics. The flashbacks are not as annoying as I thought they were going to be on first look, the story was nice and enjoyable and I like how Draco found out, that was just classic.

Plus, Luna at the end is just WIN!

I guess it doesn't really matter what happened to the original thread, if there was one in the first place, it still is a good fic to recommend. Imo it was a pretty good read back in the day, still is in some ways...thanks for recommending it OP! It was good stroll down memory lane.

This has been on my DLP Favourites in my profile for about 3 years. I'm seriously surprised that it wasn't posted. I'm sure that if I had read it for the first time today I'd give it 4/5, but as it's a classic 5/5 from me.

 

Good recommendation... this was the guy who led me to Lord Ravenclaw and thus DLP back in the day. A solid 4/5 for sure.

 

One of the few stories I've begun to read recently that's bore any interest what so ever. Refreshing take on some characters and a depth that most people don't get anywhere near. Amazing that this was written so early in the fandom's history, barely shows any signs of dating.

Perhaps the memories of it come from when it won the Best Romance award in 2006. It's got a lot of other mentions on DLP, but none as official as that.

 

I'd passed this over many a time due to the pairing. I don't hate it (the pairing), but it never really did it for me, especially after the atrocious casting of Narcissa in the HBP movie. Well, the casting itself wasn't bad, as the actress is MILF-y, but the way they made her out in the movie with that skunk 'do just ruined any potential.

Anyway, I gave it a whirl the last couple days and for seven chapters, it was *awesome*. Then chapter eight rolls around and it plummeted, in my opinion. What the fuck is that Dumbledore? A senile old pussy, crying and fearful of Harry?? I realize this was written a long time ago, fanfiction-wise, but that was just terrible.

Anyway, that's not the worst part; the worst part was (a) the deus ex machina Harry's-mom's-sacrifice-makes-him-immune-to-dark-magic, and (b) the enormous disappointment I felt when it turned out Narcissa wasn't playing Harry for a fool in a frighteningly clever you-ruined-my-family-so-I'll-make-you-love-me-then-crush-your-spirit kind of gambit. I pretty much expected that to be the case, and if it had, it would've been been a masterstroke.

Alas, it weren't to be, and with the sappy ending and deus ex, I have to knock at least a point off what had been pretty much a 5/5.

Final score: 3.5/5, rounded up to 4/5 as it was (mostly) superb.

Maybe I'll write a more satisfying final chapter just for myself. Or, y'know, just daydream about it and pretend I wrote it.

 

Baffling that it had enver been posted before. I first read it about four years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ending felt slightly weak, though. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Looking back on it now, I still rate it as one of the best Harry/Narcissa stories out there. 4/5
