Non-urgent signature issue (mystery steam signature)

    So, my signature has somehow spawned a second steam signature thing. The one with the Chinese (Japanese?) and the little moe girl. I don't know what this is or where it came from. It doesn't seem to actually link to anything. Not an urgent issue, pretty sure I can take it out through the user cp. I'm leaving it there for now because I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone knows what's going on?

    I can't see it. I looked at the page source too and didn't see anything else under your message. This is the code for your sig right now:

    Code:
    <!-- sig -->
    			<div>
    				__________________<br />
    				<div align="center"><font face="Calibri"><font size="3"><font color="#000000"> <br />
    </font></font></font><font color="#000000"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri"><a rel="nofollow" href="http://steamsignature.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561198038596450.png" border="0" alt="" /></a><a rel="nofollow" href="steam://friends/add/76561198038596450" target="_blank"><img src="http://steamsignature.com/AddFriend.png" border="0" alt="" /></a></font></font></font><br />
    </div>
    			</div>
    		<!-- / sig -->

    It sounds like it's probably a problem with your PC or Steamsignature.com was messing up.

    Some Googling later...

    It's http://steamsignature.com/ that's messed up. They've shutdown without warning and redirected all traffic to http://steamsigmaker.de/

    The poor guy who runs Steamsigmaker.de had no idea. All of a sudden his traffic jumped from 8k requests per hour to 83k per hour and his server died due to high load. He can't contact the owner of Steamsignature.com, but he's still serving sigs for the Steamsignature.com users for now.

    You're pretty fortunate that your Steam sig is working at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see it die completely in the near future. Be prepared to change your sig to a proper Steamsigmaker.de one rather than using Steamsignature.com's redirect if it stops working.

    Samuel L Jackson: Any chance of us seeing the old signatures again?
    The new ones look pretty poopy in my opinion and I wish there was an option to switch them back sorry to say.
    Coolinger: Hi, which old ones do you mean? There were no changes in signatures...
    Shylight: Steamsignature.com started redirecting requests to steamsigmaker.de several hours ago. My guess is that OP was steamsignature user, just like myself. The difference in sig style is noticeable to say the least (it's pretty amazing that they work at all). Personally, I like yours better
    Coolinger: Funny, my server just died due to high load. Now I know why...

    edit: It's a DNS-level redirect. Steamsignature disabled it, and then they re-enabled it. No one knows what is going on.

    The redirect was turned back on and I can see the odd anime girl now.

    I looked at your sig code and what's happened is that after the main Steam sig you're using an "add friend" icon http://steamsignature.com/AddFriend.png so that people can click through and add you on Steam.

    The problem is that Steamsigmaker.de doesn't have an AddFriend.png, so it quite cleverly[?] goes looking for a Steam user called "Addfriend" and automatically generates a sig for that account. "Addfriend" has a private Steam account which is why their sig is so weird and empty apart from their avatar and what I think is Korean script.

    If you just go to your sig in the CP and swap out the image http://steamsignature.com/AddFriend.png for this new image I just uploaded http://i.imgur.com/dp8wtKH.png then it should go back to normal.

    ...Well, you won't have the anime girl at least. Steamsignature.com's other issues are another matter you'll have to keep an eye on.

    It'll look like this again: [IMG]
