Okay the Direct just finished and we have it.

Pokemon Sword and Shield. Set in Britain (fucking called it btw.) The game looks absolutely beautiful and as promised its more of a traditional Pokemon game.

The starters are fairly forgettable, scorbunny, a water chameleon and a chespin style grass monkey.

Despite the underwhelming starters I'm really hyped.

Pokemon slooooooowly becoming more and more 3d.

Location looks good, and I love the name. But I thought the starter pokes looked like colourful sperm.

This dude's first two claims are legit, we might have to strap in for armour evolutions. Seems a little too fangame-y for me, but it did show up (sort of) in USUM, so who knows.

The US is going to have a spinoff, btw:

Kidding aside, this is probably what pushes me to finally get a Switch, so... Bring on the pokeymanz.

Seriously though, even though I have zero skill and zero skill growth, I can't stop playing SSMU. So much fun. The Switch has some great games on it.

Hot damn, that scenery looks gorgeous! I'm hype.

Of course the fire bunny is going to be fire/fighting, do you see the nose sticker? They must be aiming for the Maylene fetishists.

Based on the hat, do you think we'll start in Scotland and work our way down?

Based on Britain? You're gonna ned a visa to visit other regions.

I think with the rabbit light coloring its going to be fire/elec.

If it means early ice-types, I'm all for it, but the impression I got from the overview was that Scotland is where the E4 is.

I'd always hoped that a Britain based game might at least have a post game island similar to Hoenn that might represent Ireland but alas it doesn't look like it's meant to be.

I've also always wanted a big grass/ground gorilla so I'm Team Grookey all the way, hoping beyond hope it turns out like I want.

Yeah looks like you're staring in the south and just walking north. I would wonder where London is but it seems it's been transported North.

Alternate theory: Just like Hoenn the region is sort of flipped. If you look at the map upside down it looks more like Britain.

Can agree with that, though they've flipped the Hebrides in that case.

Yeah it's flipped. The first city is York with the cathedral, the second industrial looking city is Birmingham. The top city you can see Big Ben, The London eye and that spire building could be the big vibrator looking building in central London.

The big wall south of the city I'm calling York could be Hadrian's wall.

As a lapsed Pokemon fan, I came into this trailer looking for something to bring me back in. It was only a few minutes, but as I saw it, nothing. It just looks like a prettier [insert whateverthefuck the last one was called here].

At this point, I've officially given up on that proper AAA console pokemon RPG I've wanted for so many years. It just isn't happening, and given the reactions in this thread, maybe that's okay. People don't even seem to want it that much.

This game just looks more of the same to me, and that's what turned me off Pokemon originally back on the DS. I know a lot of people just want that forever though, so I won't begrudge them that.

Tbh, I'm with you. I was waiting to see Pokemon Breath of the Wild and thought that with the move to the switch that they'd switch the mainline game format. I'm disappointed as hell that we'll never get that title.

Honestly, I don't mind the Pokemon formula, I enjoy it well enough, but when you have things like "a sentient bag of trash" or "an ice cream cone" as your pokemon, you've officially run out of ideas and need to stop.

I like the core turnbased RPG Pokemon systems, it's just that with each successive generation, the Pokemon have become less and less interesting, largely because they've become increasingly ridiculous and it just doesn't sit all that well with me. There's always some good (aesthetically/stylistically at least) Pokemon in a given generation, but the ratio of good to just plain retarded is simply too low now.

If they just released a new Pokemon game with no new mechanics or pokemon, but a new storyline and limited the available Pokemon to the first 3 generations, or better yet a "best of" list from every generation, I would eat that shit up.

The map hadn't been flipped. London has seceded from the United Kingdom as a result of the recent Lexit referendum. It is now located in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Reports coming in seem to suggest that none of the locals can tell the difference.

Even though I'm not getting on the hype train, I know you all will make the right choice:
