Yeah, but in 1970 the Kent State incident was an anomaly. In 2018 we'd be lucky if a SWAT team didn't drop 100+ protestors because someone sneezed at them, to say nothing if people were actually throwing things at them.

Things are escalating on both sides whether people want to believe it or not. I see in my own generation far less respect for the democratic process and far more desire to instantaneous change.

Democrats are more fractious than Republicans. News at 11.

    Framing, framing.

Not sure there'll be much hay in Jan. Moulton completely wasted his shot, is a prime example for those who think good politics is merely being "well-spoken" and "standing up for the right thing" .....

.... [and really, it had better be herself] --- except, poor positioning because now he just looks like some white guy along with 15 other mostly white dudes mansplaining to an experienced speaker who's a formidable mentor of female congresswomen [oh hey, that's where you went, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] and has got a lot of subcommittees being chaired by women in the upcoming Congress.

FWIW, the 1923 reforms went through as promised but the republican rebels got punished. Repeatedly.

Pretty much the framing contrast, given Pelosi has a lower amount of votes against her and more votes in favour, meaning the only reason visible in these blurbs for being so negative would have to be Pelosi lacking an opponent, which Ryan did have. (Which is approaching hair-splitting territory imo.)

Counterpoint: the old Tea Party segment that was a huge pain in the arse for GOP leadership.

Update: done deal. Pelosi secures seven votes for speaker to step down in 2022, after a generational transfer. No drama for January.

Math not only has a bourgeois bias; but also a liberal one.

Looks like Ireland knocked the UK out this round- let's see how they fare against Russia in the meme world championships.
