Trump is the best thing that happened for Bush jr’s approval rating.

But we all know Jeb won.

No kidding, even if a lot of what makes Bush II look great in hindsight is things that we thought we could take for granted in anyone who managed to become President in the modern era. Especially since Bush II seemed to grasp that the Republican brand needed to evolve away from the perception of "We love the rich and hate minorities" that Trump seems to be doubling down on.

Having just read the headlines, that sounds like exactly the kind of thing Trump would do. All Putin would have to do is offer him some money, maybe some stocks in <insert Russian oil company here> or promise to buy some Trump real estate or someshit, and Trump would leap at the chance to help out his good buddy Vladimir.

Because Reagan was the kind of incredibly charismatic figure with terrible, ill thought proposals that sound good superficially that makes the worse out of democracy (even his memory has such effect, hardly would the Tea Party been able to harness a lot of support without Reagan's shadow or the mythos built around him).

Without him, Evangelicals for example, wouldn't have been harnessed so well, and they more extreme conservatives and their anti-tax proposals would've also probably been removed from the spotlight. By then, the GOP was also passing a reformulation, finishing what Nixon started. There's a pretty great article by The Atlantic about it. Until then, the GOP had a strong feminist branch and female presence, if more moderate. Without Reagan's backing and push, the evangelical women probably wouldn't have won control of the GOP's Women part. That Bush also knew that Trickle Down Economics were voodoo economics would also have helped everyone immensely, long term too.

Though Bush later changed his stance after becoming Reagan’s running mate, his early criticisms cited some of the issues in the policies that would later take shape. While you might point out that Bush also tried it out, as far as I see it, he knew it was bullshit, he knew it was a wave that was going to crash down sooner or later and tried to ride it and hoped it crashed after he was out (cynical, but such is politics).

Bush family display the usual class act, says Trump is invited to funeral. This is the public service I think, not the private one to follow in the week.

Can't well not invite the sitting President to the funeral of a former one, I don't think.

There is something fishy afoot in NC-9 btw. The NC board of elections has refused to certify the results. Unanimously, it should be noted, so the chairman's retirement over overly partisan tweets isn't hyper-relevant in the grand scheme. The main reason seems to be chicanery with absentee ballots, and perhaps not once but twice over, as Nate Silver pointed out.

So the Republican controlled Wisconsin legislature is moving to limit the power of the incoming Democrat Governor and Attorney General: link. This is so blatant and disgusting that I don't even know how to react anymore.

And odds are, nothing can be done. They have full control right now, so they can definitely pass them. And it's highly uncertain the courts could do anything about it, because technically they're probably within their rights to pass this sort of laws, they're just doing it in a particularly shitty time that makes it an obvious partisan ploy.

Trump is fucking with China? Made nice at G20, extended the deadline for Tariff increases, gave Xi some face, then took it away by doing this. Carrot and stick.

If one thing's certain it won't get me a refund.
The current debate is whether or not it should have been legal to arrest her on U.S. sanctions without being on the soil; the argument is that an extradition treaty should be functionally sufficient.
