It took three months exactly, but they gave in. My parking ticket appeal was accepted.

Get wrecked, University. You're not getting my 20 dollars.

TOMD: 20 week ultrasound was today. Baby me has two of all the things it's supposed to have two of and one of all the things it's supposed to have one of. Also a heartbeat and a spine. I am told these are positive things.

DLParents going to hit you all up for advice starting October-ish.

I don't even know how many of us have kids. I know Seratin might have one. I have three. WalkingDisaster kidnapped one. And couple others.

Congrats. Enjoy the last days of you time you'll ever have.

I'm spending them making a crib from solid oak. This is going to be fun.

    Congrats Gio! That’s amazing news.

TOMD: Gonna go watching Solo in the afternoon with a girl I got the nerve to ask out after three months. Wish me luck.

I'm having a great fucking weekend.

Have lost 30lbs so far this year, today I ran my first 10k of the year and got my first ever sub 30 miute 5k in the first 5k split, got a deal on a PS4 with God of War and Dark Souls remastered (and in 5 hours got past where I was stuck with 90+hours on steam), Ireland voted to repeal the 8th amendment, and a ship named after Oliver Cromwell sank on its way to Ireland. Tiocfaidh ár lá.

E: and I'm about to go see Solo.

I'm now 10/10 in suicides prevented. This one cut it a little close for my taste though :(

As a result I have a house guest sleeping on my couch for the next few days and being monitored 24/7 until she gets evaluated by someone with a degree in this shit.

    Well done.

Someone you know who opened up or a stranger in crisis you stumbled on, out of interest?

Someone I know who I stumbled upon in the midst of planning what would have been a successful attempt.

Let's hope that this count does not go up to 11.

We migrated the good starfinder from my son's old telescope (the 130 mm Celestron reflector he's had since he was five that was damaged in our move) to his newer one (a no-frills, 10" Dobsonian) and spent a few hours last night viewing stuff. It was a beautiful New Mexico evening and there are far worse ways to polish off a bottle of red than trying to find nebulae.

As a Dobsonian lacking an equatorial mount, it's basically a pointy-lookie light bucket. There were no good photos to be had. But man, this thing barfs out photons.

As long as the numerator increases with the denominator I'm fine with it going as high as it needs to. Beats the alternative by a country mile.

TOMD: The interesting thing about being in a field for long enough is that eventually you know most of the players. It comes in handy when low level people get out of line and become annoying enough to make a call to someone in the C-level of the organization. My particular series of nuisances went from "let me shit on this person I've never heard of" to fired in under an hour each.

As I tell all the people I train, you never know who somebody knows, and where their reach extends. Best to just assume that everybody knows everyone (because they do), and to act like it (because they will.)

TOM: My new dog isn't the type to play, but I discovered that he loves banana peels. I gave him one today.

    Big mistake.

He started crying after running away with it. When I went to investigate, it was on the floor in pieces. This wouldn't be an issue for the average doggo, pick up the pieces and move on right?

No, that is not what happened.

I have not seen him this sad since getting him. I feel bad for laughing at the idea, but he's acting like someone he really loved died. It was literally just a peel off a banana I ate. I think someone will get a laugh out of this so I decided to share it.

He's still crying as I type this, just in softer tones.

TOMD: My phone decided to make a compilation video of our puppy French bulldog we got about two months ago.

Well, mostly her. The last image was actually

Cheddar from Brooklyn Nine-Nine lying on the floor after having eaten a cake filled with frosting.

    Technology and its follies…

Got a new gig. I'm going from defending indigent criminal defendants to defending insurance companies (and maintaining a small criminal defense practice). Pretty excited to branch out.
