Welcome, this a thread where you can post a commonly used trope in HP Fandom and change it. You can also change its application. If there are any other threads like this, please forgive me.

You select a trope, change it in such a way that it retains the core idea but is still vastly different from its first firm. Or you can change its application that it is still the same, but the effect of the trope in a story is different or where you apply it is different.

If you post something, please post in this format:

Trope: "Original trope"

Changed Trope: "Your changed one"

As I created this thread, I will post the first one. Now, I am not sure if this is really classified as changing its application, but I think it is close enough.

Trope: WBWL and Neglect.

Changed Trope: Instead of the OC Brother who is the WBWL, Harry is wrongly chosen. Harry hates all the attention his parents and the media give him but his brother loves it, even though their parents barely notice him.

Harry becomes angry and irritated due to the constant attention, and gets sorted into Hufflepuff to get rid of it, but his OC brother gets sorted into Slyyherin, and this draws attention to him. Harry makes plans to make his brother the BWL, and his brother makes plans to take over the world.

This is worse than the original trope.

This is bad and you should feel bad.

Trope: Wrong Boy Who Lived!Harry is neglected/abused by Lily and James/Dumbledore.

Changed Trope: Harry is genuinely not the BWL and is loved by his family, but nonetheless is attracted to dark magic for other reasons. Because not every dark wizard needs a sob story.

Trope: Harry is too powerful for a regular wand and goes to Knockturn Alley to buy a custom!wand made of elder wood with a core of basilisk venom and Nundu fang.

Inversion: His new wand is made of driftwood and flobberworm sphincter. The smell never quite goes away.

 

I would read that.

 

Alternate inversion: It doesn't work.
