Yeah, but this is the post-Trump era, where you can be a ephebophile and still be deemed fit for office. Forum posts aren't gonna matter that much.

I mean, Moore was rejected. By a couple percent, but still.

I'm not sure i've ever written something more damning-with-faint-praise than the above.

I might consider it but my district's state rep is House Speaker and I don't expect a challenge to have much chance of success.

If ever you were in the mood to move 200 miles northwest (and lord knows, I wouldn't blame you if you never were), you'd have at least one actual vote. I'll just look for the former nuclear scientist on the ballot. :colbert:

Not that you'd ever have the slightest chance in hell of winning this area, but hey. It's the thought that counts.

Looks like a certain NY Senator is getting her dose of reality.

Considering how many of her competitors have out-drawn her rake to date on a single day, Gillibrand is destined to be among the first to drop out.

I love how they're blaming what she did to Franken, and not the fact that she has aggressively stood for absolutely nothing throughout her entire political career. Guns? Loved them when they sent her to Congress, hated them the second she hit the Senate. Me Too and sexual assault? Great way to torpedo Al Franken's career, but why should her staffer who does the same shit have to resign? Protecting children? Not from Big Tobacco when she represented them as an attorney in the 90s.

Big donors write big checks. Generally they didn't earn their money by checking their brains at the door, and most will do their own due diligence before signing on for a candidate.

If she needs to play the martyr card, that's her business. But the reality is that she's a shockingly mediocre politician who has been so aggressively transparent in having no principles that most people who know how to use Google don't want to write checks.

It's been...a month. Where nothing happened. She's there by pure indifference. Give her time.

I think Amekonnen was more asking, "how has she had a political career at all if 'she's a shockingly mediocre politician who's been so aggressively transparent in having no principles that most people who know how to use Google don't want to write checks.'"

To which I'd say: it's taken this long to establish a track record transparent enough to display her lack of principles, and being able to play at a local or regional level doesn't mean you're capable of playing at a national level. But that's a rather generic answer and I was hoping someone with more targeted insight could lay it out more colorfully.

In 2006 and 2008 she ran in a district that was marginal for Democrats. It had been held for just four years by Democrats in the previous century, and Republicans had a 2:1 registration advantage. Also it came out that her opponent in 2006 beat the shit out of his wife in the week before the election. Combine that with the wave elections, and you have an entry into Congress.

For how she made it into the Senate, she was appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat after Hillary was appointed Secretary of State. She'd previously worked for the Clinton's US Senate Campaign in 2000s, and had maintained a close relationship with them in the intervening years. This helped her ward off a primary challenge in her first election as a US Senator, which is the only one you're really vulnerable in as an incumbent in a state like NY unless you really fuck up.

Naturally, she then stabbed the Clintons in the back anyway, because that's how she rolls.

We are incredibly blessed to have Giovanni on DLP. His insight is always super valuable regardless of where you stand politically.

It's still fairly impressive that she managed to have not one but two multi-million dollar leadership PACs dedicated to helping elect other candidates (and actually using the PACs for that purpose) and still couldn't gain the endorsement of anyone but Carolyn Maloney. That actually takes some talent. Not good talent, but talent none the less.

Weld is running, he's got about as much chance of making it to President as any American DLPer does this year, so yeah, not even going to bother with a news article. His chances were summed up somewhere in the 500s of this thread.

Some Facebook ad buy statistics. Trump's going for the older demographic pretty hard.

Hey folks. Just popping in to say I decided to have an opinion on healthcare.

Can you please return to liking people dying in emergency rooms and ridiculously expensive healthcare plans that cover shit all. Cuz Sanders and Warren talking about Medicare for all, lower drug prices, and all that other dangerous socialist nonsense hurts my bottomline.

Your future increased efforts at voting for True Conservatives that look out for Big Pharma are all about helping Average Joe (no really) are much appreciated.

Edit: And what a worthy post #5555 :D

So one of the more interesting little insider feuds is the war that Bernie Sanders, and his campaign manager, are now waging against the Center for American Progress. It's interesting, because they managed to get the NYT to trick the mother of it's current Director into saying things on the record as part of a hit piece.

Every once and a while, I think that Trump has a point about NY Times v Sullivan.

You're being really sexist right now and I'm triggered. Also if you'd told me twelve years ago that Carolyn Maloney would be endorsing Gillibrand in the latter's run for President I would have asked you how much acid you'd needed to see that vision of the future.

Borrow fees will eat you alive. Better play is deep OTM LEAP calls on a major downward movement at the end of this year through Q2 next year. You'll still get wrecked by theta, but you'll have less overall exposure and a better upside - especially since the analogy (absent a seismic shift in the Senate) you're looking for is gun manufacturers in 2011-13, and you'd need to enter into the options market anyway to manage the risk created by your short position.
