@tikkier2000 One other thing Trump has quietly been doing, but plays very well to his base and will be a huge thing he can market is that he has been packing the courts with conservative nominees.

It's not just the Supreme Court.

We get lost in the tweets and "trump's insanity" but I would argue that historians will point to Trumps Judicial appointees as the biggest influencer of the american government.

You don't need votes when you can just wield the power of the law to gerrymander and all the judges are on your side.

That's unfortunately true. I've listened to a few SCOTUS hearings lately (particularly Murphy v. Carpenter) and Kavanaugh is almost laughably obnoxious, imo. Though I'd argue that Gorsuch gets a lot less press and has a lot more room to influence things than Kavanaugh does without a lot of scrutiny from the public.

This statement is so galling. You can pass as many bills out of the House as you like, but if Moscow Mitch won't bring them up for debate in the Senate, whose fault is that?

Exhibit A: Gun legislation. Exhibit B: Election security.
    --- Post automerged ---
    Sadly, very true.

I completely disagree. I mentioned it earlier, but Trump wasn’t exactly elected by a wide margin. His base is relatively small and are what propelled him through the primaries. Generalized discontent with the status quo, a shit opponent, and the nonsense at the DNC are what won him the Whitehouse through moderates, independents, and idiots. What he needs to do is not piss off those margins.

Whether or not he’s actually done that is a serious question, IMO.

I don't disagree with you, but I can't even count how many times I've heard it. It's a nice way to support Trump so-called "by default", as far as I can tell. Nifty little rhetorical way to shift accountability.

This is what I meant, but I referred to it the wrong way. The margins people I've encountered tend to be of the, "Well nobody else is getting things done" mentality even if that's so ironic it hurts.

Wait, are you saying the House Dems support Trump because the Senate won't vote on bills that the House passes?

    Cause that's just wrong...

No, he’s saying that it’s just Trump supporters’ dipshit rationale.

“Nothing gets done by Democrats, so therefore Trump and Republicans are good.”

It's political tribalism. It's fine if your party does it, but as soon as the other guys do we've got everyone up in arms and bewildered anyone could believe it. When your only two political parties are both fucking awful at doing their jobs, just depending on who has power, and people vote accordingly, well. We can argue whose ends are better or worse, but they all employ similarly shit tactics.

And yet, ironically, he's not being fired because he supports starting a war with Iran, or with North Korea, but because he pointed out that a precipitous withdrawal from Afghanistan and negotiating with the Taliban at Camp David on 9-fucking-11 were both terrible ideas, if reports are right.

Both of which happen to be true.

Basically the same place we've been for over a decade.
