He's been a good Congressman for his district, and he has a shit ton of name recognition.

One longread from 538 on Biden and his chances, base support, and all that jazz. It's a good read, and one that also makes me hope they'll do one on the other tier 1/2 candidates. Also one case of a minor political desperation ploy by Booker, who wants more money to stay in the race and has put a hard line down.

Bernie Sanders has cancelled all events for the foreseeable future after surgery for artery blockage.

Don't see how this doesn't end his campaign entirely.

Hopefully he bows out now, and wholeheartedly throws his weight and funding sources behind another candidate. Better that than limping on for a few more months and dividing the base as he goes.

Because OF COURSE Bernie gets hospitalised on my fucking birthday. I know I said I wanted Warren as the candidate, didn’t quite realise I was holding a monkey’s paw.

Comparing the reaction to this and to Biden popping a blood vessel or Hillary fainting has been illuminating.

I still wish him a speedy recovery though.

In fairness, someone otherwise healthy fainting once is a very different beast from someone otherwise healthy requiring heart surgery to stay that way.

Well, after that tee-up, I can't not share Warren's subtweet.

To be fair, if that was true, and I could vote, that'd be an instant winner. I'd legit vote for someone running on that. How much more interesting and different to all the boring black suits could you get?

Sounds like that would involve targeting a lot of swingers.

I think that part really steals the show. Just so oddly specific. It isn't just a strap on cock, it's a lime-green strap on cock.

TBH, a hanging, strapped-on dildo swinging-cod of a dominatrix might be just what this country needs right now. Make some conservatives uncomfortable.

Based on the the current GOP, I'm fairly sure a large number of them would get more excited than uncomfortable at the idea.

I'm fairly sure that's always been the case. Nothing tempts like that which is forbidden after all.

It'll just be the usual case of publicly railing against, and privately indulging in.

It's often those most morally opposed to such behaviours that end up engaging in them in the most extreme ways.

(This is complete opinion, I have no evidence whatsoever to back this up)

I don't have the numbers in front of me, and most such numbers rely significantly on self-reporting anyway so are by nature suspect, but my understanding is that it's less that and more that such glaring hypocrisy stands out, both in memory and in gossip, more. It's the same kind of phenomenon by which people are convinced everyone right of Karl Marx are goosestepping Nazis, or left of Milton Friedman are psychotic SJWs, depending on where they fall on the spectrum. You're significantly more likely to notice the remarkable cases and, lacking in exposure to the more 'normal' cases, the remarkable starts to seem average.

The go-to example for this is homosexuality; there's significant portions of the US population, 31% according to some Pew research back in May, that opposes gay marriage. However, the best estimates we have for homosexuals in the US is around 3.5%. If we be extremely generous and assume twice as many people are gay and unaccounted for (either through not reporting as such or a flaw in the data collection methods), that leaves us with 10% of the total population being gay. If every single one of those people were vehemently anti-LGBT, they'd still only be making up a third of the group opposed to gay marriage.

Like always, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and our beliefs are almost always driven by our perceptions rather than reality.
