So, Warcraft 3 is getting a remaster and is supposed to be released in 2019, with updated graphics and all. Even the map editor which means all the awesome playmodes like Summoner Wars, footie, Elemental TD and many more.

So yeah, pretty psyched. Looking forward to replaying the story and seeing the cinematics in high quality. Especially to see the story of the BEST CHARACTER OF WARCRAFT play out once more and see Sylvanas become the Banshee Queen.

I'm definitely looking forward to it. WC3 dominated my high school experience with games, and I became a programmer because of my fucking around with its map editor back then. I'm definitely gonna be buying this once it comes out.

 

I never actually replayed this beyond my first when I was a kid, so it'll be interesting to get into it again and experience it all.


And I'd just like to take a moment to talk about Blizzcon and mention the infinite sadness that all Diablo fans feel right now.
Also the sadness that Starcraft fans have, though to a lesser extent.
And the sadness I have that Mike Morhaime is retiring, because he just loves video games and his absence is going to be notable.

 

This looks slick af and I am definitely getting this. New textures look sex-ay.

Yeah, I’ll be buying this. I can’t see how they can improve on the current cinematic, though, except by increasing the resolution.

Vampirism and Civilization Wars were great. That was one of the big drawbacks of dota 2 for me - the loss of brilliant custom games.

 

Don't care at all about the RTS, but the custom games could be a whole lot of fun.

 

If the give WC3 the built in save/load of SC 2 (or better) I'll be so excited. WC3 has such a good orpg community that I haven't bought an RPG for years.

 

I'll buy it when it comes out, but I won't pre-order it, mostly in case they somehow fuck it up. The store page looks really good: they're updating the map editor, redoing the cinematics and voiceovers, and revamping the battle.net interface, so I'm hopeful but cautious.

 

Do what you want, but it's a remake, lol. You've played this game before, it just looks pretty.

...I might just pre-order for that meatwagon mount. Fuck.

 

I wonder if all the old WC3 mods can be ported as-is? SC2 had good modding support but it didn't really take off.

They said at the panel that the goal was exactly that, as I understand it, with the old pointers now pointing to the new models.

My assumption is that custom models in those aren't going to work all that well, but if they used embedded models they should be updated.

Game graphics doesn't actually look as upgraded as I would expect for a 14 year old game.

 

I was surprised no one else mentioned this. They do have a ‘not final product’ disclaimer over everything though.

 

What about it doesn't look upgraded? It's the same style, but with substantially more polygons and higher res textures, etc. It's not photorealistic or anything, but it's not trying to be, so I'm not sure what you're be expecting.

 

'As upgraded as expected'. Like, yeah, they are updating the game to work with modern PCs, but it's still a far cry from SC2. Of course, not final product so...
