Pretty much as it says on the tin honestly. Why is the Percy Jackson and the Olympian fandom so underexplored and frankly bad. I feel like the series has a lot of potential for fanfiction, so why is it so hard to find good ones.

Ryuugi is on a one man crusade to try and redeem the fandom, for all the good it's done him. rgm005 on ff.net is his username.

To your question, some of it is due to the audience. Not all YA lit is able to attract an adult or near-adult audience with an interest in writing fics. If you don't get that core of good authors to inspire more writers, you get stuck with average trash with few redeeming qualities.

Eh, it reminds me a lot of the early days of HP ff but different. You see PJO is targted towards teenagers and most teenagers aren't that great of writers. You are going to have to wait a great many years before there is really anything good turned out.

Another reason is that world isn't really that developed beside the two camps thats all thats really the gods presence in the mortal world. Its really underdeveloped and needs a lot of fine tuning and world building for any fics to be good.

If you are looking for fics I recommend Anaklusmos14 he has a very slow update time but he usually has one or two good fics.

This exactly. II don't thinkthat it inspires people to writ as much as say HP did when it first started. It's writing pool is stagnant.

I think the fandom is so bad because the books are so bad. Excellent writers can only do so much.

Eh, PJO certainly isn't bad. It's nowhere near top-tier, that much is very true, but the ideas are interesting and the technical writing is fairly solid for the most part. It's only real major weakness is that Riordan is very predictable, in terms of plot, character arcs, and general shenanigans. As long as you don't let cliches bother you much, it's a pretty decent read.

As for the OP's question, a good part of it is what Sauce Bauss said, but in my view, another, perhaps even larger, part is that the whole premise is very trite. There's just not much to spark imagination in it; the entire universe is based on and built of stories and myth foundational to modern american/european culture, and just about everything that can be done with its elements has been done (or overdone, in many cases) elsewhere. It's just not terribly exciting from a literary perspective, so it doesn't spark a lot of creativity.

There are various written PJO fics, but even more so than HP they are few and far between. Are we allowed to post recommendation/ask for them here?

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is written in the same world as PJO, so much so that Annabeth is Magnus' first cousin and appears in the book.

With this new aspect of another Pantheon the relationship between the Norse and Greek Gods can be explored.

It's stated in the book that Thor is mad at Jesus because Jesus didn't turn up for a duel Thor challenged him to.

A throwaway line written for kicks obviously but it opens up a whole new angle.

Then we have Magnus almost waking Jormundgandr. What does Poseidon think of the serpent casually stirring and nearly wiping out a seaboard?
