Summary: PostObjects in Space, preSerenity. Jayne is left all alone with a bad leg and a crazy girl for two days. It doesn't go as badly as it could. First in the Horseshoe Nail series.

The author has written a series that slowly develop Jayne and River's relationship. I read this series awhile ago, but I remembered that when I read it, it was pretty good. Since the Firefly fanfiction area is so lacking, I thought I might as well post it.
(First time posting a story, I hope the formatting's right.)
    Edit: Sorry about that.

    Awesome, awesome series.

On book 2 of 5 (or 6) right now and absolutly loving it.

Edit1: Damn. the guy seems to have River down to the dot.

Edit2: This is even better than forward Firefly.

    Edit3: Best fanfiction I've read in AGES>

Remind me to start reading more Firefly fanfiction. I'm on Miranda at the minute (which is a retelling of Serenity with a few variations) and it's definitely one of the better fics I've read lately. Doesn't hurt that it's also got an interesting pairing that I've never seen (nor really contemplated) before.

So, I just read most of this series, didn't finish the last part.

At the very start, first 2 parts are 5/5 for me. 3rd part goes down to 4/5. Miranda gets a 3/5 - readable, but not particularly enjoyable.

Didn't finish the last part. Gets far to sappy, the Jayne/River romance takes over everything by the end, and I loose interest.

The start is phenomenally well done however. Just bad at continuing.

Edit: River's characterization was top notch, I have to say.

I am also a little squicky on the whole Jayne/River thing as well, I have to say.

I have to say I do agree with the J/R comment... But I also have to say that it is a fantastic story in the beginning.

I'd also have to ask if anyone else knows of some good Firefly stories? I thought we had a thread for them, but I dunno where it went...

I have to say 4/5 overall.

4.5/5 A verry good read I thought the revised version of Serenity was superior.

Ok, so Im really glad I've read these. I generally don't check out Firefly/Serenity fanfic because I'm not knowledgeable enough about the fandom to wade through it all. Nonjon's 'Browncoat, Green Eyes' got me into Serenity to begin with, so I'm also spoiled for quality.

The Jayne/River thing is a little weird, but I picture her as older than she really is, and Jayne is easy to picture as a little younger (when his age isn't blatantly thrown in my face) so it was easier to get over in that context. That said, the writing was pretty good and the plots were believable and mostly sound.

Sure, the interest wanes as we get into the latter stories, but that could be mostly explained by my reading habits--from start to finish, and right into the next book. I'll give it 5/5.
