So... I decided that I would install Open Office as my Office Suite of choice for my lasted clean install of XP.

I was trying to open up a 5 page .doc... I was able to install office 2003 in the time it took for Open Office to load the .doc...

Is this normal behavior? What can I do to speed the process up some?

One way to do it is, open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > OpenOffice > Get on your browser of choice > Google Abiword > ??? > Profit.

OpenOffice sucks balls >_> Slow as fuck and randomly closes.

Can't use much more than 4 gigs in a 32bit system...

    <_<
Indeed, I'll probably keep my install of Office 2003 on this machine...

At least I am familiar with most of the quirks that might pop up in 2003...

I'll take a look at Abiword this weekend. I remember briefly using it around 5 years ago... Wasn't impressed then...

    So I am finding out

Are you using OO 2.4 or 3.0? I'm using OO for... 3 or 4 years now, and never had such problem.

Quick Google search later, I see you aren't only one with such problem (link).
I guess you should use OO 2.4 or another program.

    Office 2003 > Abiword > OpenOffice > 2007.

Honestly, OO is terrible. Its bloated as fuck, it uses massive amounts of resources... Its not even designed that well.
