So my dad is starting some business and he bought one too many of this server.

Would it be possible to turn this into a PC I could play recent games on?

The one he gave me is a AMD quad core with 512 Mb of DDR2 6400 SDRAM ram.

I know its not as simple as buying x amount of DDR3 ram and y graphics card. What cards and what ram is best for this but is also compatible with the main board?

    I don't see why not.

    Detailed Specs

PCI-e 2.0 is backwards-compatible with PCI-e 1.0, so you can drop any PCI-e 2.0 x16 card you want into that slot.

It doesn't look like you have onboard sound, so you're going to want to buy a sound card (probably a fine way to fill that PCI slot).

    As far as memory goes

Buy PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM like it says.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I cant buy from newegg as they don't ship here, for ram how does Corsair seem?

As far as sound goes will a cheap TeraTec do the trick? (I never really understood what the advantage of buying a high end sound card was)

And for a graphics card how about a 9500GT?

The computer will only take Pci-e x16 cards?

    Newegg doesn't ship to... Legoland?

Anyway, those parts should work fine.

Legoland is a shit-hole near Dublin's docklands (although I thought Skykes lived in westmeath...).

Skykes, dabs is cheaper than Komplett, if you want to save a bit of cash.

EDIT: A better sound card equals better sound (so long as you're using decent headphones/speakers). <_<

    God damn Irish.

    A) Sound cards are a waste of money, unless you can judge decibels with your ears.

    B) Corsair's fine. Honestly, unless you overclock like a motherfucker, just get cheapo shit.

    C) Spend the money that you saved not buying a sound card and hardcore RAM and buy a decent graphics card. 9800 is okay.

I have to get a sound card because there is no on board sound, I cant find any cheap ones that will actually fit into the computer.

Theres 4 black slots and one white one.

Here is a pic I took with webcam, sorry for the quality.
Red is the slot, blue is a gap/break in it.

White one is PCI, I believe, the longest black one is going to be the PCI-E Slot you toss youre graphics card in...

The two smallest ones are PCI-E as well. 1x I think. I had a TV Tuner card that fit in one like that... This SoundBlaster should fit into something like that I think.. Newegg, though, so youll prolly have to find it somewhere else. D:

LOL. I didn't even know Legoland was a place, I just thought it was some random made up place.

    Thread derail finish, continue on.

I find great humor in this.

Anyways what sound card is best suited for this, looking for the cheapest possible plug and play card.
