    Title: Countdown
    Author: Silens Cursor
    Rating: M
Genre: mystery/action/thriller (honestly, I'm not sure what this fic would fit under)
    DLP Category: Time-Travel Fics
    Pairing: none really applicable
    Words: 9,310
    Published: May 26, 2009

    Status: oneshot (completed)
Summary: "Harry is alone. He has a bloody score to settle. And it is the day before the end of the world."
    Links: fanfiction.net || PatronusCharm || DLP

In the current scenario, in which either authors are reccing their own fics or imbeciles are reccing complete shit, I figured to add this little oneshot to the list. Originally written in a challenge for the Mugglenet forums (in which I had to write a fic with ten 1000 word drabbles with differing themes), I figured I'd throw them a curve and write them a dark!Harry (something they don't tend to see).

And... well, this was the result. Inspired by Joe's 'Wastelands of Time' for writing style, Harry seeks to figure out what the fuck has happened when he wakes up in the future, bitter and knowing that it is the day before the end of the world. Hope that considering the reaction to this fic in Work by Author, it can win a place in the library.

Aren't they one and the same?

I remember seeing this in the WbA. Original idea, well written and you set the scene really well.

4/5 (that's about as good as it gets with short challenges like this).

I know I probably shouldn't have laughed during this story but when it got to the religion bit I couldn't help but think of the life of Brian for some reason...

Ah, Silens. You came to us as a Snape/Lily shipper, and you've grown so much in the time spent; Tonks/Harry having recieved new life thanks to you.

    4/5 from me.

I loved the atmosphere you managed to create here. The part with the religion was particularly interesting and while I wish you had elaborated on that, this is still an excellent fic.

Unlike others it seems, I didn't have any problems understanding what was going on and didn't think it was written in a confusing way.

    Also, yay for Harry/Tonks.

Quite literally in fact. It's a good one-shot and I give it a solid 4/5.

A very good one-shot, I'll give it a 5/5 just because I do stuff like that.

    I concur.

As I said on MNFF, I liked this story quite a bit. The ending was a bit cliched, but I still enjoyed it, because I am a sucker for that sort of dramatic finale, where the last shot you see is of the heroes preparing to make an epic last stand, and as we fade to black you know they're about to be obliterated.

Also as I mentioned previously, I found the quotes beginning and ending each part to be a bit ponderous after a while -- portentous at first, but by the tenth iteration, it was more pretentious. I know this is somewhat a product of the format you were writing in for the MNFF challenge, but I do think it was a bit distracting and you could have left most of them out.

The plot did not completely convince me, particularly Hermione's descent into corruption. However, I've rarely seen a better Dark!Harry -- your version made him dark enough, yet he hadn't turned totally eeeeeeevil as is more common. There was still some remnant of the heroic Boy-Who-Lived there. Despite his being dark, I found his characterization to be the most believable and true to canon, as opposed to Hermione and Tonks.

So, a good story, well written, marred by some notable flaws. It would not go in my personal favorite stories list, but I will probably recommend it if someone is ever asking for a good Dark!Harry story.

    I will give it 4/5.

    Wow. This was awesome.
The Dark Harry you created was sending chills down my spine the whole time, his characterization was so well written. Also, we need more mad!Herm from you.
Everything else has already been said by others, so I'll just leave it at that.

Too vague for my taste, but it was very good otherwise. Nice work.

Good stuff, but I still think it needs more Keith Olbermann.

  12. I don't usually like it when people pit Harry and Hermione against each other, even if it was just a minor thing, but still, loved the story, 5/5 definitely worth the library.

Excellent story all around. This was also an unique and original concept I've seen. Great spelling and grammar. Overall, I'd give this story a 5/5, rare for me for a one shot.

I love the story-telling style. Pieces and pieces. A few glimpses are all we get. But somehow, by the end, it becomes sufficient and everything falls so naturally into place.

    5/5

Sorry for the necro here, but I just figured I'd drop this in.

This story was originally written as a contest for the Mugglenet fanfiction forums - the contest being to write ten, under 1000 word drabbles with differing prompts. I combined mine together to form this fic, a hell of a lot different than many other fics THAT site had seen.

So, I am pleased to inform DLP that my fic tied for first place within the competition when the results were given out today. Thank you, DLP, for giving the inspiration!

Strictly speaking, I think the points were only awarded based on how many drabbles the participants completed in the challenge, and you and one other were the only ones who actually completed all ten parts.

That said, I do think your story was the best of the bunch (at least of the ones I read).

Eh, who cares what Mugglenet thinks anyway? Decent story that deserves its place in the library, Silens. <-- moderate praise from me >>> Mugglenet bullshit

But not as good as Renegade Cause, so feel free to update that :p

    4/5 from me.
