Anybody that talks on IRC either has an inkling or knows quite well that I can never get my PC set up the way I like. Thus, I reformat about once every two months on average.

That got me to thinking: when you guys reformat and reinstall your respective OSes (Windoze, Lunix and Macfag), which applications do you install or download because you just KNOW you're going to be using them once in a while infrequently often EVERY GOD DAMN DAY?

Firefox, IM programs, emulators (most notably ZSNES and VBA. Which is weird, because I almost never play GBA games on PC), Media Player Classic, VLC, and the essentials like antivirus software. Pretty much everything else is either "as I think about it" or "as I end up needing it."

While it's not technically a program, I also install my tablet every reformat. I generally install the art software that came with the program because I usually end up thinking about it at the time, but not always.

Not EVERY GODDAMNED DAY, but you need 'em regardless:

CCleaner and Defraggler. Necessary. for a good computer.

Firefox, mIRC, iTunes, VLC, MS Office, codecs, and the essentials like anti-virus/firewall. Generally I'll install the game I'm obsessed with at that point next though that changes every few months.

    As am I.

Itunes, Firefox, Office, Mathematica, Matlab, IDL, Adobe shit, g++/gcc, iPhoto, MacGhostsript, iMovie/iDVD, Xwindows, xmgrace, gnuplot, EnSight, ParaView, most scripting languages extant, MeetingMaker, Mail, GraphicConverter, Photoshop.

My 7yo kid loves the hell out of writing programs in Scratch. That, and EPGY math, which runs in Safari/Flash, and making shit in Keynote.

When it's tax time, TurboTax (though with AMT anal rapage and my house paid off, it may no longer pay to itemize...)

On linux I always somehow end up with: netris, mc along with mcedit, rtorrent and screen (it's weird that it's not installed by default on most of distros).

Hmm, lets see if I can remember them all...I usually end up adding them as I come across one I forgot.

    Ubuntu:

All the "non-free" shit they don't ship with Ubuntu
    stuff in the Medibuntu repos
    openssh-server (remote admin, anyone? :awesome)
    Ubuntu Tweak
    wicd
    Deluge
    Thuderbird
plugins and things I use with gedit to make it more like Textmate (even though I've never used it, I've seen screenshots and videos; almost enough to make me want a Mac, almost)
    plugins for Nautilus
    GNOME-Colors icons and accompanying themes
restore a backup of my Firefox profile (because I've got a shit-ton of extensions I use, and I'm lazy)
restore a backup of my Thunderbird profile (because, again, I'm lazy)
    Amarok
    apache2
    php5
mysql5 (or are they at 6 yet?)
    phpmyadmin
postresql (maybe...I'm just messin' around with this for now)
    phppgadmin
    sendmail
    filezilla
    x-chat
kompare (KDE app, but it's a fuck ton better than MELD or having to use command line)
A handful of handmade scripts for various things
    my collection of various wallpapers

    Windows:

    Drivers, more than likely...fucking Windows
    Firefox
    Avast
    Thunderbird
restore a Windows-version backup of my Firefox profile
restore a Windows-version backup of my Thunderbird profile
    Google Chrome
    Pidgin
    e text editor
    u torrent
    FrostWire
    VLC
    Songbird
    OpenOffice
    PuTTY
XAMPP (only if I need to run an app on MSSQL)
Vent/Teamspeak (Don't have a mic, but this ties in with the next item:)
    2Moons/Dekaron
    Beyond Compare 3
    Fraps
    Mp3tag
    DVD Flick
Divx/Xvid whatever the fuck it is

On all OSes, I install all them goddamn updates you gotta do.
