Ok, so I just made the change to Windows 7, I love it overall. The only problem that I have is that I can't play games because I have DirectX 11 and my graphics card isn't compatible with it. I was wondering if it's possible to downgrade back to DirectX 9? If it isn't then I was wondering if anyone knows where the best place to get Windows XP is since Microsoft isn't selling it anymore (online at least). My plan B would be to just dual boot XP and 7 so I can do everything but game on Windows 7.

    Thanks

What games are you trying to play?

    What is your graphics card?

Have you tired running the directx run time from Microsoft's web page?

Nothing fancy, just games like Warcraft 3 which says it only needs Directx 8.1 or higher.

    ATI Mobility Radeon x1400

And yes I have, it said it installed but it continues to say DirectX 11 when I look up what I'm running

Does it not start? Usually having a higher version doesn't compromise games that use an older version?

When I try to open it I get an error message saying that I need to have DirectX version 8.1 at least. I can get to the menu where there is the option to Start Game, Options, or Uninstall. When I click play game it will try to start it but then the error message comes up. I also have a rating of 1 for Graphics and Gaming Graphics where Windows 7 rates your system.

I don't think that it's DirectX's fault or the games, I think it's just that my graphics card is too old to use this version of DirectX

Edit: Is it possible I need to update the driver for it, or should that have been done automatically upon upgrading my OS?

I'd give the driver thing a try.
