As a brit, that sounded unbelievably ignorant to me but then I realised that it's British History and not really relevant to other parts of the world. Basically one of a group of catholics who wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament along with the King etc. Had it occured it would've changed British History forever.

That's a VERY brief summary. If you want more detail, google it. I'm too tired to write it out myself.

Ehhh.. its some guy who 'fawks' around too much? Heh... actually Master Slytherin has the right of it, but bringing this back to Harry Potter, are we sure the wikipedia article is correct? Did J/K say this or is this speculation by a fan?

Had it actually occurred it would have more than likely made world history given that it happened in 1605...of course since no one would have been able to see 'our' timeline no one would realize this and likely it'd still be considered 'british' history...

A connection to the American Revolution?

More fun information here! Just be sure to consider the source..

PS: I like the new avatar, Master Slytherin!

The world...maybe. I s'pose there would be consequences we couldn't even contemplate but if we start the 'what if's, we'll never finish.

As for dodgy Wikepedia, I forgot anyone could post thir stuff on. My bad. It way not actually be related to Guy Fawkes. However he planned to blow up parliament and phoenixes kind of blow up and are reborn from the ashes. So there's a link.

As for the ava, all credit goes to DGD The Artificer.

Umm... does anyone really think JKR, whom unless I've been horribly misled, is a brit, named an immortal creature of fire "Fawkes" and just coincidentally forgot about that fella Guy Fawkes?

I mean sure, maybe it was a neighbor's cat named Fawkes, or a really cool firework, named "Fawkes you, you fawking yankee!" but still. Somewhere along the line it is inspired by him, directly or indirectly. And I'm sure she knew it.

    It's like naming a blood-sucking leech Dracula.
