Summary: Hufflepuff is the house of the leftovers, the losers, the forgotten. Well, Tom Riddle thinks, it's time to change that.
    Link: FF.Net

It was recently posted in the almost recommended thread and I think it deserves a place in the library. When I first read the summary, I thought it was going to be a funny or humorous one-shot based on the Hufflepuff house. It wasn't.

The author takes a very different stance on the Hufflepuff house then what I've usually seen. The story is about the subtle changes in Tom Riddle that his sorting inspires within him and how those small changes goes on to make large differences. Since, the fic is a character study, I found that the author did an awesome job on Tom's characterisation.

It's a damn good one-shot and I enjoyed it very much. I like character portrayals where the author take a similar, yet unusual stance on the characters that we see in canon. In spite of the fact that it is written in third person present tense, I enjoyed the author's style of writing.

    4/5 from me.

I liked that. I always feel that Hufflepuff is under represented and always the same in fannon and you don't really see much of it in cannon. Nice story, I give it a 3.5/5, so to round it up 4/5. Because I thought that some of the layout was dodgy. But yeah, nice story.

Not perfect - fanfics never are - but it's a different twist to the Hufflepuff stories I've seen so far. In fact, it's not only the twist the author provides, but also the general feel of the wizarding world that makes this one-shot interesting. I think it's more of a read-and-reflect story than a read-and-enjoy one.

I particularly liked this line, though out of context is not the same: "'Muggle' makes Tom think of 'nigger', of the absolute power one person can have over another and how it can be expressed casually in a single word." It isn't very deeply expanded on or carefully worded, but it's the idea that got to me.

5/5 for me simply because I like reflection. Other people would find the chronological line and the wording rather poor or insufficient.

A good read. Not something I would be recommending earnestly to anyone though.

Hufflepuff!Riddle made me think of a pathetic redemption arc at first. But this story is far from pathetic, and the redemption is definitely debatable.

One of the best character sketches I've seen, ever!

The stuff about Hufflepuff as a house was thought provoking, and I really liked how Tom's decision to leave the CoS alone was handled.

4/5, because I prefer a little more meat on the plot. Definitely going on my favourites.

Nice. Just fucking nice. Some of the technical aspects (changing tenses, formatting) were a bit off, but other than that, this is really well done. The thoughts on Hufflepuff ideals were well handled, but I think the links between languages and magic were even better. Definitely one of the better character studies I've read. 5/5

Thought-provoking, insightful, and in my opinion, EXACTLY what a oneshot should be. This is a phenomenal bit of prose, and while I'd love to see an entire story arc from this POV, I can appreciate it as the single, contemplative brush that it is.

Fascinating and intelligent, definitely a 5/5.

Certainly a good time-waster and definitely thought provoking. I always have had a plot bunny where a main character is sorted into Hufflepuff and transforms them into something useful, and this fulfilled it rather well.

I liked it -- I'm not sure I've ever read a Hufflepuff Tom Riddle story before, though I'm sure there are others out there, but I didn't expect this to be as well thought out and interesting as it was.

4/5, because it was quite good in terms of character development (though I think Riddle's sociopathy got glossed over), but the story itself was a little thin.

Great character piece. A bit weak at the end, but in general - great.

A very interesting oneshot, but the end is too rushed to satisfy. The author should have ended with Riddles last year in Hogwarts with just a short glance at the wide open horizon.

Good recommendation. It's not perfect, but it is library worthy. 4 stars.

Really rather good. Very believable, if a little rushed at the end. 4/5.

5/5. Very original and one of the few good Voldemort!Redemption stories out there. Excellent character development and the Sorting Hat scene was done excellently. Riddle is actually in character, something very rare in most stories.

Pretty good, but there's one glaring absence: Tom's issues with mortality are not dealt with. We hear nothing about his quest for immortality, nor a decision against such a quest.

    4/5.

I'll go with a 4/5 as well. It's well thought out and interesting, but it felt almost too easy.

If the only difference from canon is that he was sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin, well, it feels like it wouldn't have made quite that big of a difference. At least not without more information. Like a few others said -- some of his issues (sociopathy, obsession with immortality, etc.) seemed to be glossed over.

Still an excellent read though. I'm glad to see Hufflepuff in general this well thought out. The bit that got to me was saying that Hufflepuff simply had different goals as a house, but that they were judged based by the other houses based on what they wanted.
