Summary: Fate was sealed that night. I was to live and fight, to breathe and conquer. The night I died and lived England celebrated the end of the nightmare that had yet to begin and praised the baby they would later fear and hate. I am Harry Potter. I am legend.

I noticed this one wasn't yet in the Library and more than 50k words seem enough to make a judgement.

    5/5.

    Yup, 5/5.

One of the top five works in progress in the entire fandom at the moment.

Zombie: Well, considering only stories still being updated, I would say the other four are Restu's Folly by Nuhuh, Circular Reasoning by Swimdraconian, Escape to Darkness by kmfrank, and enembee's Conload's Song.

I wish VULTUS SERPENTIS by nos tres reges were being updated too, but it looks to be on a severe hiatus at the moment.

4/5 right now, and I confidently predict a 5/5 before too long. The last chapter was pure awesome, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it's all going.

A 5/5 read for sure, but I did notice one small error. In chapter three, both Filius and Harry comment on how odd it is for one to wear a hood in the middle of summer, but The Fact Checker article is dated January 15th.

I honestly just assumed they were worse than the Prophet, and misdated their article by half a goddamn year. Because I just couldn't accept the idea that something in this story could be wrong.

I agree with this. While this is not quite a perfect 5/5, it's pretty close. Best 'new' HP fic that I've read in months.

I'd toss in Joe's Heartlands of Time and Shezza's whatever the hell he's calling book 4 of the Denarian series. I'm pretty sure at least one of those deserves a spot in the top5.

Though they are both sequels. So it's not like anybody doesn't know about them already.

    5/5. This shit is awesome.

The only thing that bugs me is that I'm not exactly sure when the canon divergence happens. Unless this is somehow important to the plot, I hope that IdSay lets us in on it, just to sate my curiosity.

I think the whole "going back in time thing" is a pretty big divergence.

The prologue vaguely says where the divergence is, or at least what the divergence is. It follows canon more or less until DH. Some things about the last book I'm keeping, others are sitting contentedly in the trash.

For now though, given that Harry's in the past, the divergence isn't really important. Things will change when the sequel is up, however.

    Thanks for the rating, DLP.

At first I liked the light-hearted writing style, but it's starting to grate on me, as it feels like the author and protagonist don't give a shit, and it's starting to make me not give a shit.

    Also,

    :facepalm Midget Abuse :facepalm

I also don't like the dialogue. Not that I don't like swearing every other word - I love swearing - but it doesn't actually give me the remotest sense of what is going on, and people's entire attitudes seem to change from sentence to sentence.

I might just be pissed off because I've got to the end of chapter two and still have no idea what's going on. And I love Joe6991's stories.

Um, what do you mean, you don't know what's going on? There's this guy, who's called Harry, and then there's this midget called Filius. They're living under a tyrant's ruling and decide the only way forward is back. So they get their shit together, pawn some ass and travel back in time.

Only their calculations went wrong because this guy, Harry, screwed up. So they get to 1945 and have two fight a two-sided battle: on one side with this evil tyrant guy and on the other with the badass villain. And there are nazis. I hate nazis.

And that's up to and including chapter 2.

It's fine if you don't like it, but if you couldn't understand it... Well, here's hoping it's you with the problem. Sorry, mate.

It is undoubtedly me with the problem. I appreciate that it isn't the most politic thing to do to review a story first of all that I didn't like by an established member, nor is it good form to review before finishing, but I'll reread it when it isn't the middle of the night and edit accordingly- ignoring the statement about my lack of comprehension (predominantly tiredness) and accepting the fact that if my initial reservations about the disconnected dialogue making it hard to connect to characters and the impersonal / wry narrative making it feel as though it was a story written for friends or as an in-joke more than for any real audience don't change, the rating may not either. But I'll see how I feel when rereading tomorrow.
