Japanese "Light Novels"?

    Are Japanese "light novels" similar to what we would consider "pulp fiction" stories? Just something I thought of. I figured someone here might know the answer. --aka

    They're basically manga without drawings and actual writing.

    All there is to it.

    They're more like novellas. Light-reading books.Their target audience is usually High Schoolers or such, though they're pretty popular with younger adults too.

    There are the usual cultural differences, but I think that ligh novels are a few pegs above pulp fiction on the literary scale.
