I hope general reading discussions/challenges/pimping is allowed here.

Since some of you do occasionally read things other than fan fiction, I'd like to invite anyone interested in broadening their reading to join the 1001 Books Challenge I have started.

Basically, you get assigned a random book from one of those "lists of great books everyone should read in their lifetime" and agree to read and review it before the end of the year. (Reading more than one is, of course, encouraged.)

All details are here. You do need a LiveJournal account (too much hassle for me to track non-LJ members or anonymous logins) but you can create one just for the challenge if you don't have one already.

    edit: Les Chants de Maldoror

I am about 30 pages in now and I am not sure if I like this or if I want to run away screaming. I think that might be the point. Also I kinda wish I was fluent in French as I am sure it loses something in translation.

Thankfully I got one of the few I haven't heard of before, so this should be an enjoyable experience!

    Nice and original.

Was astonished at how many of the books I'd read on a brief skim. Should be good fun.

EDIT Oh dear :facepalm I've double checked: read 178 of the posted books and own 29 of those. How fucking sad lol

Heh, what were the odds I'd get a French book ? On the plus side, I think I've got it somewhere.

Funny how so many of us are getting French novels.
