*a working title. And the obvious spoilers.

So having just re-read both books I feel speculation is the only next logical step. How Kvothe, at the end of tWMF, has tuition paid, a steady income, no debt and power bubbling from under his skin, becomes Kote, the grieving, too old for his skin, tiddy yet slipping bartender in the middle of BFE tutoring a 150 year old fae spirit.

While the present day sections of the book are tedious and not as flashy as Kvothe's tale they are undoubtedly more enlightening. First his introduction tells us what to expect of his story:

So what's he done so far? Well Trebon is partly ash, Felurian was satisfied, and some could argue he was indeed expelled from the University, but was overturned. The others are a bit ambiguous. The stolen princess and sleeping barrow kings is going to be an interesting story. Maybe Auri somewhere? Idk. I digress. To the next thing we know of Kvothe.

We've seen the Adem and but "The Broken Tree" bit I don't think has been explained. I'll touch on it later. Abenthy already dubbed him E'lir. No mention of Dulator yet from any of his love interests. I have no recolection of Shadicar, but Lightfinger and Six-String can be explained away for his gift with the lute. The Bloodless was also seen and the Arcane was also thrown in near the end of tWMF. Kingkiller seems a bit transparent but we haven't seem him do it yet *cross your fingers for Ambrose*.

Alright well to the actual speculation then. What we don't know but want to draw some conclusions too.

-Sleeping barrow kings? No idea where this comes from, but I think we can speculate of the princess. Auri seems a strong contender. She has yet to play a vital role but is obviously being set up from something important.

-Kingkiller... well it seems like what he'll do to attain the title is easy. Who... well there is really only one king still alive in the books, I believe- that being the Modegon. Hopefully Ambrose trips and stumbles his way to the crown and then Kvothe gets another dose of that plumb crap.

@Denna- Well her future... let's face it, grim. I expect her to die. I don't think she is Amyr or Fae or Chandrian. I think she is hiding something. I don't know what exactly. But something. We know she's around to meet Bast once. Maybe in Fae? That'd be interesting. I wouldn't mind a Felurian/Denna meeting. Alittle awkward for Kvothe. But I'm sure it will center around her patron. Speaking of...

@Master Ash- Well my money is definitely on Bredon. With Denna complimenting his dancing, and Bredon's metyphor and other mentions of dancing, along with his absence during Denna's quick departure it just seems too much. Further more, with his familiarity with Tak, which we only see elsewhere in the Fae and his desire to play a "beautiful game".. well he's either a Amyr or a Chandrian. And with what the Ctheah said about how close Maer was to the Amyr I'm going to guess the former.

@Meluan Lackless- I"m on the aunt wagon for sure. Her sister eloped with A Ruh and a striking resemblance to someone Kvothe couldn't place. Well these means we'll run into her again. Hopefully along with the Maur so we can discuss the Amyr and....

@The Lackless Box- So many mysterious boxes in this book. Hm.. Well I think all of them are connected. The box at the foot of Kote's bed. The box which holds the moons name. And the sealed box heirloom of the Lackless house. In Hespe's story, Jax stole the moon's name. Bast says Iax stole the moon after speaking to the Ctheah. The moon which ties the two worlds of fae and the mortal realm together. There is much overlap and many roads of theory to take from here. Was the old man in the story the Ctheah or perhaps the tinker? However from Felurian's story we do know the one who stole the moon, Jax/Iax, is looked behind the Door of Stone. Ah... working title indeed.

@Kvothe's Rings and Sword- Jake the Smithy's apprentice gives us a nice bit of information before he runs off and takes the king's coin. The sword he calls Kaysera, the poet killer. It was given to Kvothe by the Adem as Saicere and we are never told what it means but Vashet is afraid it will of set Kvothe's Adem name, Maedre. Kvothe himself renames it Caesura, the jarring break in a line of a Eld Vinitic verse. In fact, on page 820, when Kvothe receives the sword it almost seems as if the swords name changes because of his ownership... Interesting. Something I'd talk to Elodin about.

He has rings of wood and bone. From Lackless and Stapes, respectively. We can assume the air ring is from the mastery of it's name. The others will either be more name mastery of perhaps something more spectacular. Though of these I haven't a clue. There is mention of an amber ring which allows him to control demons but I can't find it.

Now I'm sure there is more theories to expound upon, but I'll leave that to others as I'm interested as to the general consensus. Something that I would like to know though, from the first book, is how does the Master Archivist, Lorren, know Arliden, Kvothe's father. Eh? Riddle me that.

 

This post is full of shit. You spelt 'Chronicles' wrong, which makes you an idiot in the first place, but the actual post is just a recount of what has been discussed in the Wise Man's Fear thread. You've spoilered the entire book without giving warning, and for all that you didn't even provide any new information about Wise Man's Fear or the new book.

As rinsimyaldee (please get a name which I can spell without a reference) said, you've also just copied a load of what other DLP members are saying in that thread. You've also got a few things wrong:

There is the King of Vint, who the Maer rants about. There's the Modegian royal line, said to be the oldest royal line in the world. Artur is an Empire, which implies an Emperor. And we don't know the governing structure of the Commonwealth, but it would seem from the way that the villages talk in the frame story about "The Penitent King" and "taking the King's coin" that the Commonwealth has a King too.

No, we can't. Elodin knows that Kvothe has called the name of the Wind, but seemed extremely shocked by the suggestion that Kvothe might have a ring of air.

I don't think there's much mysterious about Kvothe's chest. It seems that he used to be able to open it, it's just that he can't now because it's locked with magic that he can no longer perform.

That said, there are definitely lots of mysterious blocked off things/places. The four-plate door at the university, the box with part of the Moon's name in, the box that Meluan has, and the locked door to who-knows-where that the Lacklesses are said to have (possibly also the box).

 

The misspelling is definitely an embarrassing point. But I've never been an astute speller. In any case there is a very nice spoiler alert at the top of the page, that I will take credit for.

As for why this is a separate thread, well I would assume tWMF thread is predominantly conjecture and rating the book. This would be a amalgamation of both books and applied theories for the last and final book.

True, most of these have been pointed out in the other thread, but I've done a little to bring them together so one doesn't have to hunt and peck to find them. If you'd like add your own. You obviously have a problem with mine. I in no way think all those theories were my own. I was what you "spit balling" to create discussion. Ideal for forums.

And obviously this would be the place to shot down theories that don't make sense or are mistaken, as a few of mine are (thanks Taure, I confused "oldest line" for "only line"). It's kind of the point of the whole thing. If you want to discuss the second book, what you liked and didn't or the first books plot hooks and writing styles that is for those threads, but I figured if people wanted to combine ideas for the last book it could easily mean a new thread.

Lastly, I'm no altar boy, but having the first post on my thread being both slanderous and vulgar seems a bit... rude. I try to stay away from both as they make you sound childish and catty. But I won't argue on the boards. If you find yourself personally affronted by my existence, shoot me a PM, we can discuss my lack of intelligence out of the public eye.

You mean that very small line at the top of your post, not highlighted in any way, beginning with an asterisk? Yeah, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. A spoiler warning like this should have been in the title.

Also, while speculation on the future of the series could be a valid reason for a new thread, the WMF thread has been nearly nothing but speculation with the occasional 'This book is fucking awesome!' thrown in for good measure. The NOTW book review thread worked fine for speculation before Wise Man's Fear came out, it stands to reason that the WMF thread would suffice for speculation on the next book.

It is merely a speculation thread- as to skip the "I just got tWMF and it rocks!" part and just tell us what you think will happen in the Door of Stone. Honestly it's just a new thread to gather everyones thoughts- I don't see it as being a bad thing. You have to skip to page 3 or 4 of tWMF to be on a theory gathering basis. I figured this thread would take a more concise approach. But it obviously hasn't. I respect those who gave a well reasoned response, over cursing and insulting my post, but honestly- it wasn't that bad of an idea. And if you wish to be this hostile on a thread post then maybe you should pick a few more fights in real life instead of building up a vast reservoir of impotence and rage at a new poster on your forums.

When push comes to shove... I really just want to know if there will be any importance to Master Loren knowing Kvothe's father?!? Has anybody spotted a line or two to explain it! It is bothering me to no end.

 

Look, I'll say it now so you can use this knowledge. Lurk More. Lurk a lot. Read threads, and only contribute when you have a burning need and you know you are contributing. Even then be concise. I am shit at this, but I'm trying. I was a gigantic prick when I started here, my intro thread was disgusting. Hopefully lurking is helping me to post better. Do so.

Also, how does one go about changing their name? I'm not quite sure how...

Perhaps there was no burning need for this thread... but personally this just reminds me of the speculation thread for ASoIaF that they have on the Westeros board.

If organised and presented properly, one could see what the dominant speculative theories were and the evidence for each in the first post - without scrolling through pages of opinions and irrelevant stuff as you have to in the main thread. From there you could see which theories actually had any support and perhaps draw further conclusions.

I'm guessing this is what the OP was going for.

Considering how damn good the series is and it's resulting popularity, I don't think there's any harm in letting this thread exist separately - solely for speculation. I mean it's only been a week since WMF came out - there's bound to be plenty more theories to come.
