I'm slightly confused as to what kind of market a structural engineering firm is trying to find in a Harry Potter fanfiction site.

^ It's obviously targeted at the Weasleys and their crooked, haphazard "Code? What code?" house.

It's not even that it's the wrong market, it's that PatronusCharm barely has any traffic. I mean, they took the time to set up an account and post fake fics, but they didn't notice that?

    It's not for the traffic.

They are doing this for the backlinks. :p

I say no. Why would they want to post on a site that doesn't get much guests? I smell "bullshit".

Back links doesn't necessarily requires visitors. Basically, when you search for a keyword on Google, one of the factors affecting the rank of your site is how many "other sites" link to yours. These links are called back links. The more, the better.

It might be a good idea to make links in stories no-follow. Then there would be no SEO advantage to spamming.

I applaud your bravery in actually visiting a site advertised by a spambot. Possibly related: I highly recommend you run a malware sweep soon.

This is where I arrogantly post that since I use OS X, I am immune to malware. Someone else should come along and point out that I'm being a douchy and lying Macfag. I will then revise my statement and say that for most practical purposes, OS X is safe from malware, with the caveat that it'll start being targeted more and more due to its rising popularity.

Fake-edit: Oh, and it gave me an actual server error; no website of their making actually rendered. (OR SO THEY WANTED ME TO THINK DUN DUN DUN)

Way to be a lying, douchy Macfag.

PS - You probably do want to run a malware sweep, even on OS X. Better safe than having your identity stolen or something.

It's not exactly hard. The only reason there isn't much of it is because OSX makes up less than 15% of the total userbase. Put together a few scripts, maybe a couple fake error messages, and most users will let you have free access to their machines.
