What the hell is this ish? I've only watched the first six episodes or so, but what a pussy. How could there ever be such an awkward male character around a woman? He acts like he's 12 years old around the opposite gender. How do people watch that without turning it off in disbelief or frustration ? Is all anime like this? Also, from the Naruto fanfiction I gather that shooting an extreme amount of blood from the nose around females is a normal reaction. Am I such a noob to anime that I am over reacting to this? Does anyone else find these reactions ridiculous?

He's basically a place holder character that lets us enjoy copious amounts of animnated nudity. o_o Deal with it.

I do not care about copious amounts of animated nudity. I care about the fact that he's a non-handi-capable dude around chicks. Based on Naruto fanfiction and this show I assume this is par for the course. Why?

Moé and gratuitous fanservice, learn to ignore it and your enjoyment of anime will drastically improve.

Because he is acting as a vessel for the otaku that watch this show to project on because that is exactly how they would act.

Most people do, it's just the otaku demographic that can actually relate to him in any way, shape or form.

Fuck no. Go check out the Anime Rec thread, and watch some of the suggested shows.

Actually, just go watch Baccano instead. :3

Yes, you are over reacting because you are a noob. Unfortunately that's because this shit is very common in some genres of anime and manga. You will learn to ignore it, or at least learn to ignore the shows that it is likely to be present in. When you do you will be a better for it.

Either learn to ignore it, or learn to appreciate it for the lulz that can result.

Wow, is this like, one of the first anime you've seen?

In which case, you were so unlucky to pick Sekirei as one of your first. It's a pretty average anime. It's one of the more interesting moe/fanservice anime, but that doesn't really say much. As Tenhauser said, most of these harem anime are pretty much just an excuse to have some loser guy (the otaku audience) get lots of hot chicks.

I know a lot of friends who get put off by this kind of result when they first start. As people said, you do learn to ignore it, and thus appreciate the more average stuff.

There are so many anime that are better though. I usually get people who are new to start with Death Note, or Full Metal Panic.

    +1 on Baccano too.

Thanks for the answers and rec's. Sekirei is the first anime I've ever watched. I did so because of Gabriel Blessing's fic and it was on Netflix.

    Yeah thought you might've.

You might've been a lot happier watching the other anime in the crossover, Fate Stay Night (and more importantly, Unlimited Blade Works) instead. =P

The anime is decent. The movie, which you're meant to watch afterwards (UBW) is amazing.

If you really want to start with Harem anime of all things, start with The World God Only Knows. It's so different it's almost a deconstruction. :p

But yeah, if you wanna start with anime in general, the rec thread should be for you.

I hated it and dumped it after 2 episodes, and yet finished both seasons of Sekirei. Though I guess a lot of other people seem to be enjoying it.

Deal with the harem anime stereotype.

Well, I've watched the anime. Liked it more than the manga, but it'll never be anything special. Those punishment squad uniforms are sexy, and those thighs disturbingly large. Mild entertainment at best.

Don't watch the crappy adaption, go for the original source, the visual novel. That might be too steep of a step for a newbie, though :D

The movie is just halfway decently drawn (lol deen) action porn. No need to hype it more than it should be.

I find the visual novel a...struggle.

The anime adaption wasn't super amazing and could've been a lot better. And obviously, it missed out on a lot of the details the VN had in it.

But the VN is so god damn boring. Oh sure, the storyline is good. But it takes longer than In Flight to progress. We spend hours reading about his day at school, making breakfast, etc.

Probably doesn't help that I've been trying to get all possible tidbits, so save at every decision and go through each choice. I nearly finished Fate like 6 months ago, but then dropped it. I do plan to pick it up, cause I really want to get through Heaven's Feel but...*sigh*

And then I gotta do Fate Zero too before the anime comes out.

Yeah, you really aren't doing the visual novel any favours if you're reading Shirou making breakfast on day 6 twice before he dies horribly, and once before the next scene.

For the most part, the dead end scenes aren't too interesting and are easily skippable.

Ok, so I'm going much the route of the OP and am trying to muck my way through the series (Sekirei) in order to get a better feeling of what's going on behind the scenes in In Flight and Postnuptial Disagreements. However, I'm trying to go the manga route--the jokes seem to flow a little bit better, there isn't as much time wasted on bouncing titties. Yes, I like them, but its way too much, to the point of distraction.

The problem I'm having though, is that I can't find a proper translator. All the sites seem to rely on a poor translator who misspells names, words and concepts to the point where if I hadn't had prior knowledge would have been confused. Has anyone here read the manga, and if so what site?
