I had me a look and couldn't find a thread about this show.

    Which is awesome.

    Luther

Currently two seasons deep. Season 1 is 6 episodes. Season 2 is just four. But it's like they're two mini movies. Really good television.

It stars Idris Elba as a fucked-up psychologically disturbed cop just tryin' to do the right thing.

You may recognise Elba from The Wire, and he was also Heimdall in Thor.

This is a very well written show that steers clear of your average cop drama cliches most other shows seem to think the audience will just accept.

Luther is awesome. Maybe one of my favorite crime dramas of all time. I first watched Luther a little over a year ago, and I was so happy when they went and made a second season.

For me, what made the show is the interactions and the chemistry between Luther and Alice. As I was watching, and I don't usually do this, I kept thinking to myself, "OK, these 2 need to fuck, like ASAP."

2nd season isn't quite as good, but overall the show gets a 9/10 from me (with The Wire and Mad Men being 10/10) and I'd recommend it to anyone.

That was pure mindfuckery. Whoever came up with that deserves some sort of award. Definitely some of the best tv I've ever seen.

Watching this now, and I'm fucking blown away.

Fucking Brits. Do you really have to whip us in every television genre?

So I heard you liked Luther.... Season 3 just premiered tonight, and it's still one of the best shows on TV. Sorry about the necro but this is a PSA.

Pretty solid episode, and interesting and disturbing murder to solve and a sub plot that I can't spoil but has me waiting enthusiastically for the next episode. Enjoy.

Idris Elba is back in Season Four of Luther.

I just watched it, and it's good. Check it out if you can.

    Trailer for the new season.

Trailer for Season One, if you're coming at it fresh.

Just binged all the seasons. Shit is cash. Watch it if you haven't already. British television knocking it out of the park again.

I need to get my hands on Season 4.

I second this. Just binged through seasons one and two. I think I know why British cop shows are so much better than American ones. They are much less episodic and formulaic; they keep the focus of show on the characters and not the routine.

The trade off is shorter seasons, but that is fine. This is a lot better than any American crime series on right now.

That's exactly why they're more enjoyable. The stories are limited by often a six episode run, so the writing has to be neat, concise, tight. Much better storytelling.

American shows such as Supernatural, Elementary, and so on, whilst great premises with some awesome episodes, get bogged down in the mire of monster-of-the-week and similar.

I also really liked Wire in the Blood as a UK psychological crime drama, though its a bit dated nowdays (2002-2008). It's definitively worth a watch as well.

I'm pretty disappointed tbh. Everything that happened in that episode made me wish season 3 was the end. So much unnecessary stuff.

I... Am not hearing good things about this season. Is this one of those I should be happy to pretend like it ended at S3?

Yeah pretty much. It really wasn't worth it.
