So, I'm currently watching season 4 of Merlin and it's giving me the fan fiction bug. Can anyone recommend any really good Merlin wumpage fic? The longer the better. No slash of course. Assuming, of course, that this genre hasn't been taken over by the slashers.

 

There is a story named The Last Dragon Egg. It's not half bad, though I only read- like half of it yet. Anyway it's supposedly bromance story but it feels more like a point lower from slash (though I guess it's because of the way author words things, I mean if I hear one more time about Merlin's dark ebony hair or Arthur's golden locks I'm going to hurl), so don't expect anything much unlike Hiccup.

Also gotta say I was kinda disappointed because it wasn't the epic world tour I expected it could be.

Anyway I know it doesn't look like much seeing I am dissing it even while recommending the story but, feh... Beggars can't be choosers.

That said, it's only a bit more than 10 000 words long, and there are some possibly slashy undertones towards the end. Nothing overt.

This is not a particularity safe fandom for hetero-only readers.

 

Merlin fanfics are alrealdy occupied with slash. But try this one out.

It diverges sometime in season 3 (I think) where Arthur finds out that Merlin is a sorcerer. Chapters are short and the over all plot conforms to the canon storyline, but there are changes in the way it gets there. Also, there are mini-episodes set between each canon episode, which are pretty nice.

It's also pretty huge, each episode divided into 3 chapters and more for the major, season-finale episodes. It also has a sequel and two prequels. And some spin-offs.
