I'm not looking for any particular fandom, I just want stories that will make my brain explode because of how fucking amazing the protagonist is. For instance, Shinji from "Shinji and Warhammer40k" would fit right in this thread. I don't care if the main character is an unrealistic godmode mary sue so long as they use their awesome powers to blow my mind.

An example of something I am not looking for would be any story ever written by VFSNAKE. Not interested in angsty bash fics where all drama is resolved by being super powerful and yelling at all the people who were ever mean to me.

I don't know about "making your head explode," but off the top of my head there's Joe's Wastelands of Time and Shezza's Denarian Trilogy, both for Harry Potter.

Mass Effect: Interregnum by The Naked Pen counts too, if you like Mass Effect and especially if you like Garrus.

Wastelands of Time is the easiest way to explode your head. Several times.

If by "awesome" you mean "over-the-top," then by all means, Wastelands and other such epically epic stories are where you should look. I'm not bashing, believe me; they're just not my preferred type of story.

If, however, you'd be interested in an awesomely realistic protagonist, might I suggest Hocus Pocus, Adele Polkiss. While I believe she does yell a few times, she's definitely not in god-mode.

If that's not to your liking - and I'd be shocked if it is - I guess I'll drop back and punt with a few more conventional offerings.

The Unforgiving Minute - Not a suave type of awesome, but rather an awesome born of desperation and a deadline.

The Lie I've Lived - A mix of the polished and the raw badass, mainly as a result of the plot device. It's bordering on being old nowadays, but I still think it's worth a read.

Breach of Contract: Twelve Signs - It's sad that this story isn't more well known, as this version of Harry Potter is not only a ruthless motherfucker, it really comes across in the narrative. Highly recommended.

That's all the completed ones I got for you. Now for some unfinished ones here on DLP.

The Stalking Blood Sack - If I believed in god, I'd sacrifice a young goat to ensure Nuhuh finishes this thing. Oh, and that his health stays good and all that. [<3 U, N] This is as close to god-mode as I can stomach outside of a parody.

Ectomancer - A truly unique take on HP magic, or a unique addition to it at the very least. This is another story worthy of a burnt offering or two.

From the Brightest Constellation - Might've saved the best for last? It's a HP/DF crossover, and as cool and imaginative as some of Water Mage's settings are, his Harry is a classic, badass antihero. A cocky, self-absorbed dick. In fact, this version of Harry is essentially channeling Tony Stark.

Thinking of any more would require actual effort, so that's all. I'll leave any and all other fandoms to posters who give a fuck about them.

Why did you have to mention this? Now I feel like crying because it hasn't been updated in ages, and just like N, chances are it won't be again. :(

I'll see if I can find a goat.

Don't care what fandom it's in? Ok then...

Fallout Equestria. This is a My Little Pony/Fallout crossover (go figure), but if you want a badass protagonist, this is it. Takes a while to build up to it, but in a 600,000 word fic you can forgive that. I would rate this up there with pretty much anything. Complete.

And, if you liked that, then its side-fic Project Horizons is almost as good, except longer (850,000 words) and still updating.

Another of Water Mage's that I highly recommend is Awaken Sleeper. It's also a HP/DF crossover and it's one of my favorite fics. (Between you and me, I like it better than the Denarian Series, but I also recommend them, nonetheless).

There's also A Clock on the Face of Hell. It hasn't been updated in a long time and I despair every time I think about it. It features Harry and Filius Flitwick time travelling. It's pretty badass.

Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod is one of my favorites by Heather Sinclair. It's post-DH and has Harry working as an Auror.

Wizard for Hire by Syao is a pretty good one as well. Just like Sinclair's, it's post-DH and has Harry doing freelance work on just about anything and everything. (DLP link)

Fictional is another one of Syao's. It's a HP/FSN crossover. Harry gets summoned as Servant Assassin by Caster. (DLP link)

The Master of Death by Ryuugi Shi is one of the greatest HP/DF crossovers. This thing is so full of win that I nearly cream myself everytime I think about
Harry descending from the train in the sky as Dresden and company watch.
    It's completely and utterly masterful.

The Prisoner's Cipher has an epic battle scene that you have to read, and one of the craziests Harry Potters ever.

The Third Magic is a crossover between Familiar of Zero and Fate/stay Night. For me, it has the best characterization of Illyasviel von Einzbern.

Son of Sons Trilogy by blank101. If you're a Star Wars fan, then you have to read the Trilogy. It's the absolute best in the fandom.

Ambient is one of my top ten favorites of all time. Both Harry and Romilda are somthing else.

Another story with an awsome protagonist is Justice Itself. Afterall who could be more awsome then Tyrael when he's placed in Equestria?

I forgot that My Little Pony was A Thing when I said that I wasn't looking for any fandom in particular. I'm old enough to remember the original MLP, yet I can't tell if this new craze is one of those "ironic" memes where everyone pretends to like something or if this is the new way for pedophile furrys to connect with one another on the sly.

I don't know anything about video games anymore, but I think I'll give ME: Interregnum a try.

Can't speak for the rest of the people here, but I genuinely enjoy it simply because it's a good show. Nothing more than that.

That was a surprising gem. Ecmm has some great skill at characterisation. Thanks, Portus.
