I was browsing DLP looking for a music recommendation thread and I couldn't find one, sorry if I missed any, so I figured what the heck I'll start one myself. I wasn't sure what sort of genres you guys are into. Rock? Electronic? Western Art? Dubstep? Who knows, but I figure we're probably a pretty diverse bunch so I say let's just make it a general recommendation thread. Post whatever band or song is tickling your fancy at the moment and the rest of us can listen to it or laugh at your hilariously bad taste in music. It'll be fun.

Ok seeing as I made the thread I'll go first.

Gold & Youth- Time to kill. The song is very Lo Fi and chill the perfect song to just zone out and relax to.

Gary Clarke Jr- Bright Lights. Blues and Rock very old school. I saw this guy live a couple months back and I've got to say he's probably one of the most impressive blues guitarist in the last 10 years.

Jeff Buckely- Hallelujah. Jeff Buckley was probably one of the most talented musicians ever and it's a shame he died but he left behind what is probably one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

This thread is newer than the other ones so I figured I'd necro this one than another. Plus most of those threads are for specific genres of music. We don't really have a general music rec thread.

Either way, fuck the haters. Here are some recs.

The Clairvoyant (Iron Maiden cover) by Vicky Psarakis. Found it through a Brazilian friend of mine. She's awesome.

Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly. Nice bit of Irish music similar to, if lighter than, Dropkick Murphys.

Counting Stars by OneRepublic. A bit different to my usual fare, but it was on the radio and I've become kinda addicted to it lately.

Misty Mountains Cold by Taylor Davis. A bit of classical violin by the same girl that did the Elder Scrolls Medley and a ton of other game/movie covers.

Hmm, I think I know a Youtube music critic who has some solid recommendations...

Okay, shameless self-promotion aside, here's a list of acts who dropped good to great albums this year and a link to my favourite song on their new album:

-Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - 'Higgs Boson Blues' or 'We Real Cool' (alternative rock)
    -Daft Punk - 'Touch' (electronica/disco/funk)
-Kacey Musgraves - 'Blowing Smoke' or 'Follow Your Arrow' or 'Merry Go 'Round' (country)
-Kanye West - 'Blood On The Leaves' (hip-hop)
-The National - 'Demons' (alternative rock)
    -Savages - 'No Face' (post-punk)
-Franz Ferdinand - 'Treason! Animals' (indie rock)
    -CHVRCHES - 'Gun' (synthpop)
-Bill Callahan - 'Summer Painter' (singer-songwriter, Americana)
-Brad Paisley - 'Southern Comfort Zone' or 'Karate' (country)
-Within Temptation ft. Tarja - 'Paradise (What About Us?)' (symphonic metal)
-Barenaked Ladies - 'Odds Are' (you all know who The Barenaked Ladies are, shut up)

Pretty awesome songs, specially Silens ones. Although I'm a huge The Nationals fan, didn't liked Demons much. And I gotta say Kanye West is a dick, but a very talented one. To me he is the olny one who can use auto-tune. And Jesus Walks is my favorite hip hop song.

I just wanted to add this recommendation to the list. I'm not quite what he Genre really is, but it's beautiful music. It's piano, violin, with a bit of electronic in there as well. Just give it a try erally.

Ólafur Arnalds - For Now I am Winter

A few songs from the album that i particularly like.

    Only the Winds

    For Now I am Winter

But yeah, those are my two favorite songs on the album, however, it's all good.

So are his other albums, but not on the level of this one I thought.

Sorry for posting in such an old thread but I was looking for a music rec thread and found this one which has some good recommendations, so I'd like to share some of my favourite artists.

Les Friction is pretty good. I've been listening to them a lot lately. I don't know if there's really a single genre for these guys, there's a lot of piano, violins and the like. Some electronic. It's kind of haunting, sad music in some songs and really epic in others.

My personal favourites are Firewall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5SKsCXnEyA&list=UUaUAQSi1tvQPSKC9d_jJBZQ

    And String Theory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_1nsyH5AZU&list=UUaUAQSi1tvQPSKC9d_jJBZQ

Miracle of Sound has a lot of good music, he does a lot of game themed music videos that he composes himself along with a few original songs: https://www.youtube.com/user/miracleofsound

Rise Against is awesome. They're rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-SQGOYOjxs

Blackmore's Night is folk music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qHdAOKoL18

It's not that bad, probably not their best but not bad. But to each their own I guess.

Dr Dog - The Beach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUYyfy3pqbM Pandora recommended this song to me, and it's fantastic, haven't listened to anything else by these guys though.

    Otherwise, some Aussie Stuff

The Rubens - Lay it Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKrVHMTcEuc
I'll Surely Die: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5R4NPe08Sg - Rock, new upcoming band, hope they make it big, some of their stuff is class.

Edit: And I'll add this cover by Matt Corby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvNTxSLhZaA
