I've been reading the light novels lately, and it feels like they'd make the perfect setting for some pretty good fics given the limited amount of the world that actually gets shown in canon. However, a search of ff.net didn't turn up much worth reading. I could have sworn I saw a mention of some in WBA or For Review here, but I can't find the threads (which leaves me wondering where I got the idea to read it - I can't think of where else I might have seen it mentioned as something worth looking into, but that's beside the point).

So, anyone read any good fics set in the SAO universe?

The story focuses on her OC's, Kadyn and Camila. Both aren't as ridiculously powerfull as the usual main cast, which is a refreshing change; and though the protagonist (Kadyn) is very passsive and, well, weak in the the Red Valkyrie, Catsy said that this would change in future installments.
Catsy's fics are the only really good SOA fanfics I've read, though I haven't looked for new ones for a while.

If you have read far enough, you should also give Fairy Dance of Death a try. It's pretty awesome.

Zero Art Online is the only readable story I know of, and it's an almost recommend at best. It's a cross between Familiar of Zero, because internet.

Short version is a ZnT/SAO crossover thing, but instead of the normal "summon someone as a replacement familiar", it actually merges the universes.

I have not read it myself, so I can't really speak to its quality, but I'm told it ranges from 'meh' to 'pretty good', and it's been getting a lot of attention over on spacebattles.

pretty good, the premise is that instead of making SOA Kayako(sp) made ALO.

 

Halkegenia Online is readable. Would put it as 3/5's, so almost recommendable going by DLP standards. It updates fairly quickly too, though apparently it's getting closer to it's climax. I don't know if that's the end, or if it'll have a sequel of some sort, but sill.

Fairy dance of Death hasn't updated in a few months has it? I've read a fe chapters, and it's pretty good too.

 

Hadn't for a few months until recently due to RL foo. Posted chapter 16 on June 5th and am currently about 3900 words into chapter 17.

ETA: Oh, and for those looking for more from Kadyn and Camilla, I have a third story of theirs in the outline stage, though not sure when I'll begin actual writing on it.

FF.net is up to Chapter 59 which is Titled: Chapter 14 Part 3. On SpaceBattles, this is Chapter 12 Part 3. So yeah, 10 more parts out.

Also note that in true SB fashion, this is up to Thread 6 since all the others maxed out. And this thread is already up to 3600 replies... Luckily the author provides a chapter index in the first post otherwise it'd be impossible to find the new chapters.
