hmmm....yes, but the reason i find this story good is because it has so many different aspects to it...like the fact that harry isnt stuck in one place too long but moves around magical europe...

I agree. This is a funny fic- there's plenty of suspense in the sense that You never know what's gonna happen to Harry next- but yeah, its like Mr.Bean or Johnny English, hes completely unaware of it, but hes doing a wonderful job apprehending crime, etcetc.

And the Padamus Da Grim Nomed Black thing really grabbed my interested.

Indeed...this is one of my favorite stories. He does such a great job of fixing things, and apprehending crime but doesn't know it. Other people read more into his innocent comments, like that mob boss. I also like how Lestrange and Co. died. I'll never look at a Pepsi machine the same ever again.

This is great.

I remember when I read it last it only had a few chapters. It stopped after he beat those four Death Eaters in Holland. I hadnt seen it since then.

I tried reading this once a while back, and found it interesting to an extent, but I didn't like Harry acting like mister Magoo.

I do love this story. I mean it's one of the ones that inspired me to write my trilogy. And definitely agreed that Blot is one of the funniest.

Though I must reluctantly admit to sort of tiring of this fic's formula. It's hilarious, great, cracks me up all the time, but we're 27 chapters in and we have a long ways to go. I've seen the Blot working on a couple other ideas on his yahoogroup, and I just don't want to see this fic get stuck like Lord of Caer Azkaban sort of has. Still in the meat of the middle of the story and left hanging. It's the same complaint I have about most of Shezza's stuff. Just loses steam and desire on what more to do.

I think he's still got to go to like Australia, Asia, America, et cetera before we near the end of the story. That's going to be probably another dozen to two dozen chapters and 50K more words, at least. And I just don't want to see this fic stuck or simply repeating itself, you know? And I definitely want to read how it ends more than I want to see more of the "Man Who Knew Too Little" sort of hijinx fun.

Nevertheless, this is fantastic stuff and kills me all the time. Can't recommend high enough (especially if you like my fics).

ip82
02-01-2006, 03:14 PM
Yeah, he already kinda started repeating himself...

I mean, that first scene with misplaced portkey (when DE's fall from the top of a hotel in Switzerland) was hillarious.

But then he used the same idea 3-4 more times, with a train and candy machine and a new jail etc...

I mean, however good some idea is, repeating it over and over again won't make it any better...

It's kinda like that Azkaban parody story and Eppy the house elf - Funny at first, but not after using it over and over for next 20 chapters...

ChuckDaTruck
02-01-2006, 03:27 PM
I'm actually starting to agree. Its losing its value, still Hilarious, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!.

Also, there was no apparent need to add the Architect and the Doctor. It feels like he's trying to breathe life into a dying patient. Let it go. Its run is course.

Still funny, and I still recommend it though.

nonjon
02-01-2006, 03:39 PM
I don't want to start an anti-Blot wave of feelings here.

I just think there's going to be a limit to the number of times luck favors Mr. Black and I find it funny. And rather than push that to it's limits, I'm really curious how its going to end. I've seen a few drabbles about 'way down the line' on his yahoo group and it just feels like that's really far off in the story.

And yeah... for me the jury is still out on the Doctor and Architect. Probably the Architect moreso than the Doctor.

I just had fun picturing a scene with with them all drinking themselves silly and passing out, leaving Harry and Henchgirl up. Drunken Harry whispering to her:

"Wanna know a secret?"

"Sure."

"I'm a student."

"What?"

"Just finished fifth year at Hogwarts. Supposed to start my sixth in about a month. Shhh. Don't tell anyone."

"What? No! Don't pass out! What?"

ChuckDaTruck
02-01-2006, 03:53 PM
That was funny. LOL.

AND I still recommend it, but its wearing thin. Still, if you haven't read it, READ IT!!!

And, as I said before, I did like Umbridge getting killed.

New chapter 28 up.

"AN: Harry has a few more places to visit, brief stop in India or Bhutan . . . maybe both. Japan, Australia, and then America before heading back to Europe for the final few chapters."

/me looks for Senor Blot trolling this thread anonymously.

Another lovely chapter. Though he went and used the animagus form my dimension hopping Harry was going to have. Probably still is. Oh well. As long as that Harry's alternate Backstreet Boy name...err I mean other nickname he goes by, hasn't been overused recently.

But it sounds like Blot's aware he's been dragging a bit and has a decent idea of how much and what he has left. Yay.

(especially if you don't mind to receive a bunch of emails each day).

Excuse the silly question, what e-mail? I'm member of twenty-surplus Yahoo!Groups, including high-load ones like "jeconais_fanfiction" or "potterplace3", and haven't got a single e-mail delivered for any of them. The secret is (if anyone doesn't know) that you can choose for each group how to get the messages, the choices being 1) single e-mails, 2) daily digest, 3) special notices only and lastly, 4) no e-mail. Makes group membership realy convenient.

ip82
02-02-2006, 05:16 AM
I'm well aware of that, but what's the point of being a member of any group if you don't receive messages from it? Yeah, Daily Diggest could work too I guess, but I personally prefer to receive each message seperate (so I could delete what I don't like and easy find what I DO like).

nonjon
02-02-2006, 11:35 AM
Well, I'll say this much, I too am in that group among many others, and I don't get e-mails from any of them. It'd be too much spam for me. I just read all the posts when it's convenient from the groups pages.

I get the e-mails for my own group. But I'm No E-mail in all of the others. And yeah... it was Blot's formula that I copied for putting up partials of chapters as they're written. And it helps that he has all sorts of odd ideas (bad unintentional pun) that he'll write up and post sometimes.

It's all about the mygroups (http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups) page. You can still view all the messages, at your own leisure, reply to them, and at a quick glance see which groups have a lot more messages, or new files up, etc...

I'm with radioactive in that it's easier for me to read them when I want to, rather than check back and realize there's 50 new messages from two diff groups. I think we're in the minority in this, but if you want to join more than a couple dozen yahoo groups I don't want to think about how many emails you'd have to deal with.

I keep divulging story details in hopes someone will steal these ideas, write the fic and then I won't have to. Course when I eventually do get it done, as I know I will, there won't be anything in it I haven't already said.

But I thought I'd just let him go by a pair of initials that don't match up to him but have lovely meaning in the wizarding world. And like a good old nundu, "When you absolutely positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room… accept no substitutes." Like A.C. Slater's older brother. No not E.G., R.J., J.R., J.B., or C.B. (bonus points if you caught that movie reference... a hilarious and underrated flick).

It was either the initials or Deus (for deus ex machina), since he'd swoop in and save all the crappy fanfics that bug me.

If I'm not arround, then the emails pile up and I get the same thing as when browsing messages on myspace, only
1) Already saved on my comp (so I can keep the messages I like)
2) Faster to browse than to wait every individual message to open up from web
Even if I don't feel like reading them, I can just mass-select them and delete them, so no harm done.

But if I AM around, then I receive 5-6 messages per hour, so I'm always up to date what's going on and I can easily participate in discussions etc...

So, I win either way.

Updated.

"The team got ready and we all took our positions," tears fell under the death eater's mask and his voice became shrill. "Nothing happened, wormtail ate some bad shrimp and had to get his stomach pumped, then he was hit by one of those street taxis, and then he ate some bad curry and is currently making my Lord's water closet smell like a week old corpse . . . other than that, nothing happened."

"If nothing happened," the dark lord asked in false calm. "Then why did half the team burst into tears when they got back? Why did the other half wet themselves? AND WHY WON'T YOU STOP SHAKING?"

"He's just trying to trick us," the death eater giggled insanely. "Trying to get us to drop our guard . . . but . . . but we're too smart for that."

"CRUCIO," Voldemort had to resist the urge to cry . . . you just couldn't get good minions anymore.

I still crack up laughing when I think of the Death Eaters and their portkeys.

This is the absolute best part of the whole thing:
Grabbing a piece of chocolate, Harry opened the door to the balcony and leaned on the rail. The wind in his hair, the lights of the city, could his life get anymore perfect.

“Diaieeeeeeeee.”

Harry watched in shock as several death eaters appeared in front of him and then plumeted to their deaths. After taking a suspicious sniff of the piece of chocolate that he had been eating, Harry leaned over the rail to look at the pile of broken death eaters littering the ground in front of the hotel. Wondering why these things always happened to him and resisting the urge to cry Harry turned around and walked sadly back into his hotel room, local law enforcement would be showing up soon and it might be a good idea to pack.

I can't help but laugh at that! Its fucking hilarious!

And he has FUCKED up the ending.

Shame. Great fic, tarnished. The ending's not awful, BUT it is bad. This story should have ended 11 chapters ago.

Lots of people could have been cut-out or fused together. Combine the doctor and Henchgirl, make the architect some random goblin no need to name him, and remove the others. Harry's only traveling companions should have been: The Professor and Henchgirl. Even the Leather Work couple could have been left out, or have the PRofessor design a new thing. They could even leave them out entirely. And forget the fancy broom. Why couldn't the professor invent that? and they never should have gone commercial and founded Black Ink. It took Mr. Black's character out of the shadows and made him real rather than the mythical figure he was before. They tried to recapture some of that mystique (Characters trembling, the scene outside the Biker bar, etc) but its not the same as when the character was on par with Death. Death doesn't go to conventions. There's no way to restore the character's aura of cool once its lost. And the translator thing should have come from Harry's vault. It leaves out the whole Shopkeeper backstory, which is really a distraction. Harry had one relative who was a master linguist. That's it. No great hidden stuff in the vault. Its a simpler and cleaner solution.

Yes, the tail end is turning out as great as it could have been but I've seen worse... a lot worse.

I wonder if they'll find out if he is Mr. Black... that'll be somewhat funny to see.

The latest chapters, while not as funny as the earlier ones, do have their moments, however small they may be. Harry punching out a kangaroo for instance, you Aussie's would know how difficult that would be.

The story is done. It was actually a very good ending, with Harry not rejoining all his friends.

Yeah it was alright, bit anti-climatic but ok

I'm glad he finally quit this. The last ten chapters were terrible.

Meh, didn't think they were terrible, not as good as the first few, but still alright. I enjoyed the story though, good comedy relief

It was a great story, but the ending left a sort of empty feeling. I donno it seemed like he rushed it. Kind of ruined the story for me.

Anyone read the author notes of the last chapter? Don't fucking make a sequel, Blot, seriously. Scratch that, don't freaking make two sequels. Sigh. Well, at least one of them will be solely for O-Makes. I just really want this to end. Its a great fic and all, but its dragging out too long IMO. Perhaps he wants to do a nonjon-esque trilogy ><.

He should've quit while he was ahead. Once Harry came back to Britain the story went to shit and became an average fic, with no humor, and nothing but bullshit filler.

It's finished, the conclusion was a bit rushed, but I admit that the story quite enjoyable overall.
I highly reccomend the Untitled JLA X-over, which can be found at the group.

Yeah, this story started out reaaly good in the beginning, but the last ten or so chapters sorta brought the quality down. They just weren't as well written as the rest of the story; it was starting to sound like the author was pulling them from well... ya get the picture. And he wants to write sequals? I think he should take a break and then come back with some new material.

Meh. I liked the ending, it just pulled away from the humor aspect that drew most of its crowd. Telling the snake that he couldn't die was one of the best parts of the story to me. He was about to kill the snake anyway, so there was no reason to say it other than for himself. It leads me to think that Harry is starting to believe all the things people are saying about him and is actually turning into "Mr. Black."

Really liked the fic even if the ending was a "bit" off...
Its like Blot was trying to make the humor fic in a general type of fic.... but thats probably fault of the ff.net reviewers.

I'm feeling lazy at the moment, so rather than paraphrase my own comments here, I'm just going to paste the review I left for Rorschach's Blot.

I suspect you'll disappoint a few people with this ending but such is life. Six thousand some odd reviews can't be wrong. You've written a hell of a fun ride here. Looking forward to further adventures.

If you want critical analysis, I'll say some of these last few chapters seemed a bit forced. I think the big shift where the fic went from pretty much pure humor into sort of a slightly angsty humor was when Harry became aware of people's impression of Mr. Black. In the beginning where he was just 'lucking' his way through things, completely unaware that they were assuming him to be much smarter than he really was, it had a much more light-hearted fun tone. Even the deaths were comical. Somewhere in the last dozen or so chapters it seemed to sort of turn a corner and it was almost melancholy humor. For example, in the last little omake you wrote about the guy robbing the bar Harry was drinking at. The kind of sadder Harry reluctantly saves the day chucking the bottle at him. The earlier happier one would've been unaware the bar was being robbed and maybe accidentally chucked a bottle over his shoulder without looking. Essentially the same events, it's just a little easier to laugh at unintentional foiling than intentional violent tendencies. Both work, but I think it's the happier stuff that attracted most of the attention and that people respond better too. The Harry-Mr. Black at the end was a far cry from the Man Who Knew Too Little in the start of the fic. I wonder how much of Harry's transformation of sorts was your own irritation at the hassle of writing 50 chapters here as people bug you for more.

Anyways, congratulations on finishing such a mammoth landmark fic. It really is one of the most popular ones ever. And that's something to be damn proud of. I've said it before, but I thank you for your inspiration too. My own humor trilogy I'm quite proud of and it was this fic among others that inspired it's start. Good luck on your future endeavors and I'll be keeping my eyes open for more.

Pretend I paraphrased that into an argument for why the last few chapters were lacking, but at the same time against all those bashing the fic unmercifully.

I agree totally with your pretend paraphrased argument nonjon.

I couldn't put it better myself, because I really liked the Magoo type humour.
The last lot of chapters is similar to my dark humour, so managed to read and enjoy them. Although the abrupt change does make it seem forced, but that may possibly have come from canon changing so much.
